4K Projector or 4K 65-inch OLED TV?

I don't know much about projectors and was wondering is there 4K projectors out yet which are compatible with 4K Blu-Ray players? How much for screen and projector? I wouldn't mind one like BB's as long as it's not too expensive. I was thinking buying a 4K OLED TV but have just come to the conclusion they are very expensive for what they are. What screen size would I need? What's the total cost Incuding installation work and possible bargains? Cheers!

I got my installation team coming tomorrow and am going to try and see if it's possible and the likely cost.

BB can you give me the price of your projector and screen and the size? Or would you prefer me to pm you? Cheers. I was thinking of comparing the two. What would you recommend doing?

really can't see a 4k projector and screen being cheaper than a tv. It's too much in it's infancy to make it worthwhile imho. AFAIK, there are no 4k blu ray players out yet anways, only upscalers.

Wasn't it not so long ago you said you shouldn't/wouldn't be buying anything new?

I decided to go into my savings. I am now thinking the projector 2D route like what BB has done. Just trying to find out how much it costs doing at the moment, and then leave 4K alone until years in the future.

Ouchy! I was thinking more like £1800 and screen not sure about. I suppose I will stick to 2D now, and just upgrade to 4K when I can. I was thinking about the Sony w40es projector now and I will wait until I can get a 4K projector at £1800 too. Would about screen here? Do people do discounts on these? Cheers.

I am doing exactly the same in waiting for 4K projectors to drop in price, however I went for the Benq w1070, as providing you use a white screen (Silver/grey does not work with DLP projectors) the performance is not much different to the more expensive Sony.

The biggest downsides of the cheaper projectors, are the limited Lens adjustment, which can make them more difficult to place in a suitable position. (If the Benq will fit in your environment I think you will be surprised just how good watching a film can be, and thus an ideal stop-gap until 4K arrives)

Hope this helps

The cheapest true 4K projector at the moment is Sony VW300ES at £5850. JVC DLA-X500 accepts 4K signals, downgrades to 2 pictures of 1080p, and displays it as such. So it's better than 1080p but not true 4K.
Cheers! Perhaps I will go the TV route.

Hi Gel,

I've not replied on here for a while now so sorry If I missed a post about this but I thought you recently decided to stick with your current setup? Are you seriously considering paying a OLED 4K TV now with no real content and extremely high pricing. Your current TV is super mate, you should stick with that

A couple of years minimum before any real content comes out on BD and (with the exception of an AV reciever), a 4k player and decent OLED to be affordable in my view.

I can't see any point for now. 1080p for a while yet...

Cheers guys, I am loving my current setup and have decided to keep it until I can get a 65-inch for around £2500 and must be hdr too, we are talking at least a year and a half I would think. Probably 2 and a half years. I definitely want to keep my OLED though, not sure if possible though. Cheers.

Just so that I'm clear, lest I over-react. Are you talking about a 65-inch, with OLED technology, with High Dynamic Range, for £2,500?

Would you be prepared to consider an LCD television, but still 65-inch and with HDR (like the new Samsung 65JS9500, if I've remembered the model number correctly), or is OLED technology a must?

If I ask very nicely, could you please answer both my questions, not just one.

Yes, probably. A cheap OLED 4K 55 inch is coming this September, so a 65-inch OLED 4K can't be long a way. TVs genuinely drop 50 per cent and I plan to get it then or ex-display. I say in a year or two you will probably pick one up for £3000 or less.

OLED is a must I love my 55-inch model, I won't drop in quality to go bigger. And the OLEDs are nice and light for my stand.

Do you demo OLEDs much? They really are a step up in quality.

Don't forget I paid around £1500 for my LG OLED 55-inch TV Incuding discounts. I will probably buy an Oppo 4K Blu-Ray player (like many other people I guess), and plan to pay around £560 for that.

I do like the Samsung's though and am keeping an eye on them, did you see the one in HCC a couple of months back? They loved it!
