40 or 46 Inch Sony LCD?

Hi People,

If a 46 inch Sony uses exactly the same technology as a smaller Sony 40 inch, would the picture still look as good? I've heard that smaller screens generally have a better looking picture? Please help guys!

Will look as good but only if you sit further away. ÿThe artifacts that come with the technology (especially standard def. viewing) will be more visible the bigger the screen for the same close up viewing distance. ÿRecommended viewing distances are on this web site somewhere. ÿI have a 40" sony LCD and need to be at least 3 m away for the picture to look as good as my old Loewe 32" CRT.

Someone told me that larger LCD screens don't do the blacks as well as the smaller screens. Anyone heard of that before?

Traditionally, black performance has been the LCD's achilles heel (compared to plasma). And of course, any flaws will be exacerbated by the bigger size. But as has been pointed out, this is also relative to how far you sit from the screen.

So... if you sit around 2.5 metres from the screen, get the 40in. If you sit 3 - 3.5 metres away, get the 46in.

And when it comes to black performance, no LCD is perfect, so the important thing is making comparisons between the available sets. In our view, the Sony W4500 TVs are the most accomplished in this area right now.

I sit 3-3.5 metres away and i bought a 40", the 46" looked abit to big for my room and plus i would sit closer and the picture was not as good.

Just remeber its not the size that counts its the performance that matters, well thats what ive heard

500 Model supposed to be even better than the 5090. Beats the Sony anytime IMO.
