3D Ready receiver to do my speakers justice

I have Tannoy DC2 mains, DCC centre, DC1 rears (and a Velodyne VX10 sub).

I have an Onkyo 805 receiver which is over 3 years old. I am happy with the Onkyo's sound processing, but I have been told that its power amplification could be holding my speakers back. I would agree with this given that with stereo music at low volumes, the detail and balance is not there like it is at higher volumes and like it is when you use even a half-decent stereo amp.

So in short, please can you tell me which 3D ready reciever will give me fantastic 2 channel performance (as an indicator that the amplification is of stereohpile performance).

Just want to say that the multichannel expereince, and even stereo performance of my Onkyo is great, but if I am goign to replace it, I may as well try and improve on it.

Also, not bothered about the "british" sound or musical sound. I like clinical (but not shrill). I want to make the most of the Tannoy's Dual Concentric design to give me super-accurate sound imaging.

Many thanks.

The Pioneer SC-LX83 is the one to look at - it will work perfectly with the Tannoy's. If that is more than you want to spend then the Marantz SR7005 is doing wonderful things at the lower price point. Both will give you superb stereo performance while making the most of the Tannoy's.

Hello,

Can confirm that Marantz sounds good with Tannoy dual concentric speakers, but if you're looking for a more clinical sound the Denon's might be a bit better, having run both makes with my Arena. Use for music and films.

Also, if you're looking for more detail at lower levels it might well be worth thinking about the processing. My old Maratnz did fail, so problems it was experiencing may have played a part, but at low volumes it didn't seem to push out all the detail as I expected and the enveloping feeling wasn't so good.

The Denon is much better even at very low volumes, and isn't as poweeful, or probably as good in pur amplifier terms, but has audyssey dynamic eq and volume.

The ICE powered Pioneers are well rated, but when I demod the (non-ICE) VSX 2020 the sound was very much biased to the top end, with everything sounding 'breathy', and not totally to my tastes for music. It was good sound, and impressive at times, but from my experience maybe not to everyone's taste, and wasn't solid enough for music. But the ICE amps are supposed to be much better.

Kinda, that's really useful, thanks. What you say about Denon tallies up with my previous (ancient) experience of one of their stereo amps. Loads of detail at low volumes, but not a big bang sound.

My marantz stereo amp gives a big bang, and is not bad at low volumes, but unlike my AV amp, I only ever listen to it loud!

I think, then, I am edsging towards a Pioneer with ICE (don't know what that is yet), but soudns out of my budget, so may well stick to Denon.
