I don't know much about 3D tv s so for the 3D glasses which is best to have passive or active glasses as I am interested in the look of the new Sony X900 series looks good. But the glasses for this tv are passive but I have been led to believe that active glasses are best is this true?

You are in a fortunate position because the normal rules with 3D glasses don't apply to this tv.

As a rule active glasses can show full HD images (1080p) but can cause eye strain where as passive glasses are only capable of a lower (720p) HD resolution but don't tend to cause eye strain simply because of the tech involved. Active glasses are battery powered and switch the lenses on every individual eye 100's of times a second to create the 3D effect, passive glasses require no power and the lenses are doing the work.

With a 4K tv you get full HD passive 3D simply because of the 4K screen which can give you a 1080p passive 3D image which is considered the ideal solution.
