I don't think Apple have lost their way since Steve Jobs passing away. Yes, it would have affected them a bit. Historically, Apple have excelled in innovation and have succeeded by pioneering different sectors (MP3 players, smartphones & tablets). Competition could never catch up with the iPod, but emergence of smartphones have caused a decline in MP3 player sales. Competition has caught up in the smartphone sector.

Apple has a clear lead in tablets at the moment, but it does feel threatened by Microsoft & Nexus 7, & was forced to respond to competition prematurely. Based on my initial impressions with Windows 8, Apple has a strong reason to worry. The minority of initial negative reaction of Windows 8 is mainly due to users not yet accustomed to to the new UI. This won't be the case in a month or so.

Yep, and on currys / pc world website. If I get time I'll pop in tomorrow and have a look, buy if I'm happy with it. I think it's unlikely to be discounted over the next 4-6 weeks, do you agree?

Agreed. I'll feel guilty to buy it for any cheaper (if you know any Google employee though, you'll get 20% discount if they order it for you)! :)

Reading through previous posts on this thread I suspect that people have forgotten about the best value 7 inch tablet on the market ... The Blackberry Playbook ... £129 for 64GB including a free £10 gift voucher from PC World. Hardware spec is very good inc. front and rear 1080p cameras, HDMI out, GPS. If you are not tied into an app ecosystem and just need the main social apps, a browser, an email client, media player, and native FLASH support give the Playbook a look. The OS will be updated to the next gen BB10 and it can already run Android apps increasing the possible app selection.

A mate of mine is a little p*$$ed off that he paid £199 for the 16gb Nexus 7 only a few weeks ago, to see the price fall two weeks later to £179 and then to £169.

I can imagine his reaction to the news that the price is even lower now as Google have reduced it to £159.

I am debating whether to get one of these. I have a 16 gb iPad already which is brilliant, but am now drawn to the extra portability of a 7 inch tablet.

Does anyone have both? If so, advice please. :?

I have a 32GB iPad 2 as well as Nexus 7. I almost exclusively use the iPad for surfing the Internet. I'm not comfortable with surfing on a 7-inch screen, probably because I've got used to a 10-inch one. Also, for my official work purposes, I use the iPad, because I can connect it to a projector for presentations etc. This is not possible with the Nexus 7.

My wife finds Nexus 7 a lot easier to play games on, like Temple Run. She finds the iPad a bit too heavy to manoeuver. In some ways, Nexus 7 screen is more slick than the iPad.

Mr D, perhaps advice was the wrong way to put it. Basically do you use them BOTH sufficiently to warrant having them) I am just wondering whether I'm being a bit inspector gadget (again!!!!)

Well I now only use the iPad as a remote for the Stream Magic (since the android app is poor), and the nexus is much better as a book/newspaper reader than the big iPad (my primary use for both), but only because of its size (it's one-handable). The big 'Pad is a better web browser, but only because of its screen size. So really it depends what you want to use it for.

Much the same as you really so thanks for that. IPad is a bit cumbersome as an ereader. Was considering a Kindle but thought perhaps spend a bit extra and get a few extra bells and whistles and at £199 it's not a bad deal really.

......... to the shops

Which is just where I've been - PC World - and I have a shiny new Nexus 7 :bounce: ...

... for Mrs. Scene

Oh well.

I'm sure she'll let you borrow it , if you ask nicely that is :)

I haven't managed to get one yet, they were sold out when I went to PC World near work. It's a real pity it doesn't have a card slot but then I suspect this is just me wanting everything.

I'm sure she will - but she seems quite keen on a case for it with her initials embossed on said case... :silenced:

If you're looking for the non 3G one, it's still listed as available for free (3-5day) delivery on their website... (and the local ones near my office in London still have them)

Just bought the Nexus 7 and very happy with it. The BlackBerry seems to suffer from some limitations and while the space is attractive, especially at the price, I'm not convinced by RIM's inconsistencies in recent years. Happier with Google's likely better support for its baby too long term. With cloud connectivity the way to go, the 32gb Nexus 7 offers a happy medium between the two.
