Hi folks,

My first post here (despite being an avid what hi-fi dreamer for many years).

The time has come for me to ditch the CRT and replace with an LCD / Plasma.  Due to the layout of the room, the target screen size is from 32 inch up to an absolute max of 37 inch.

The set will be used primarily for Freeview (via a Humax PVR), but with the occasional DVD.  Thus HD Ready is perfectly acceptable, although it would be useful if the specification allowed for blu-ray use at some point in the future.

I have read loads of reviews and they all talk of the freeview performance, but I assume this will be irrelevant as the PVR will be doing the tuning ?

So any recommendations of sets to view, and tips on how I can differentiate between them (short of taking my PVR with me of course !).

Cheers

If you are after a 37" panel, the 37PX80 is a fantastic performer and very good value as well.It has excellent SD and HD performance and will also display Blu-Ray at 24fps if you ever go down that route.

If you must go for 32" (and I would always go for the biggest you can manage) it will have to be an LCD and I am not the biggest fan of that particular technology.I am sure somebody else will fill you in on what are the best LCD's at this moment in time.

There's an eight-way test of 32" LCDs in the February issue (on sale 7th January). You might well find that the prices we've reviewed at will have been amended by then...

cheers for the replies guys.

I am happy to hang on for the middle of next month to see the result of the group test - but is it safe to assume that if a panel has the best freeview reproduction with its own tuner that it will also be the best when fed with a signal from the PVR (thus assuming that the internal processsing of the signal is a major factor) ?
