1. My system sounds rubbish in the day, I have found that closing the curtains helps a little (somehow) but it just doesn't compares to night time listening, where I'm usually blown away. Any tips??

2. My left speaker makes a vibrating sound on very bassy punchy tracks and has done since I bought them, though I wasn't sure if it was something else vibrating but it is definitely the bass driver, what should I do? they're a few months old from SSAV Bromley.

3. Does anyone know a London Hi-Fi dealer that sells Naim, Cyrus & Roksan? And if they sell NAD too that would be amazing!

THANKS!

Pmaninit:1. My system sounds rubbish in the day, I have found that closing the curtains helps a little (somehow) but it just doesn't compares to night time listening, where I'm usually blown away. Any tips??

Dunno. Sometimes I listen all day from about 5:30 am to about 9 pm and have the volume up from around 10am - 6pm (actual times of day not volume settings expressed as clock times!) but don't notice any variability in quality.

Either (a) You are hammering the speakers and the bass/mid is hitting the end-stops or (b) something is loose.

Re. Q2 Sounds like it could be a fault, assume they are still under warranty being only months old. Contact the dealer and see what they have to say in the first instance.

Chebby: Yeah it's definitely not a, so must be b. I'll contact SSAV in a few weeks, after my degree is over! It's a shame though, didn't really want to have to mess around with them.......

Did you see my post earlier in the day about tightening screws/bolts? Could be something as simple as that. Give any bolts you can see a little tweak and see what happens.

2: Change L and R speakers around, if the problem stays L then the fault is not the speaker, if it follows the speaker change them

Basshound: Yes I did, BUT there are no screws to be seen on the 685s....

True Blue: Yes I thought that and will do so some time soon, but I'm pretty sure I know what the result will be

Closing the curtains at any time, day or night, will reduce the reflective surfaces and the sound field will improve, which is why recording studios are decorated with sound absorbing materials and not sound reflecting materials.
I always close the curtains when listening or watching, it's one upgrade that's free and actually works!

Various theories go towards explaining this. The mains is quiter and with less demand voltage rises slightly and is more stable. You are a bit more chilled and relaxed. Outside is quieter and there are fewer distractions.

Ah, but I often don't have my curtains closed at night! (I know, I'm a wild one). I understand your theory, but don't think it's gonna make a lotta difference IMO

Question 1 is RFI in the mains which is always far worse during the day because of all the factories and offices etc running all day effecting the mains supplies.

A decent mains conditioner will almost certainly have an effect there
