Hi, just a quick one tonight folks. i have the chance to add a 2nd Rel Q50 to cinema setup, was thinking of adding to centre channel, what would the benefits of this be if any? and is it really worth it?

cheers

The more usual situation is to run the two subs from the ".1" output, as this is dedicated to LF. I have heard systems where a subwoofer has been added to the centre channel output, and in cases where the typical hi-fi speaker package's centre isn't up to par with the front left and right speakers, it has worked very well. It needs a little tweaking to get right, but persevere and it could have a large effect o how your overall system sounds.

Hi cheers for reply, i dont mind putting the effort into tweaking if i can tell a difference. spent hours moving the stereo speakers around to get those sounding right, i'm happy to make changes that dont cost anything 🙂

would i get a more natural sound from adding to centre? just dont want the whole system to be overwhelmed if both are connected to lfe

cheers

Can I ask which centre speaker and front speakers you have?

Because the sub would be connected to he centre channel output, it's independent of the LFE output from the AV amplifier. With centre speakers that are smaller than the front pair (usually the case), it brings it's tonal balance more in line with them, making it sound more balanced and giving voices a fuller tone.

Definitely worth a try. If it doesn't work out, just use the two subs for proper LFE output - nothing lost
