2nd hand/refurbed vs brand new

there seems to be some good deals on refurbed av gear at the momemt. eg. refurbed onkyo 875 approx £450 as opposed to a brand new onkyo 607 £400. does this represnt value for money? what actually entails with a "refurb"

It depends who has done the refurb and where the unit came from. If its ex-demo stock that has been checked over by Onkyo/their authorised agents I'd say its worth a look. If the refurb has been undertaken by an independent I'd want to be looking into it in more detail before taking the plunge.
