Or you can save £8k and just have a 4K projector for movie use - Sky HD will look pretty lame scaled to 4K!! Your Sky box will look better on a 60" 1080p TV, which you can probably get for 4K or less. Still about £4K up and you have a PJ and a TV

Yep, £25k is what I thought too .... so I don't see how the saving isn't much more than £4K by going for a projector and TV, even including screen. For instance: (1) 60" TV - something like a Samsung PS60ES6500, cost about £1,600; (2) Projector - Sony VPL-HW50ES, Panasonic AT6000E, JVC DLA-X30, all around £3,000; (3) Projector screen - Diamond Edge (I think) price depending on size, but say up to £6,000; (4) allow up to another £1,400 for a projector mount and other accessories. That makes a total of £12,000. A saving of £13,000 on the cost of the Sony 84" TV, and with a projector and screen that will go significantly bigger. So I don't see how the saving can be only £8,000! :doh:

The only genuine 4K projector out there is the Sony VW1000, which will save you £8k on the £25k price of the 4K TV. Add to the £17k the cost for a TV, and you're still up on the deal

Ah so, Mr David. I hadn't been considering specifically a 4K projector. Now your sums make sense!

Incidentally I think that maybe the same sort of reasoning would apply to the 75" Samsung 75ES900, which costs £8,000. If you don't go for a true 4K projector, it is still possible to save money on the £8K cost of the TV by getting a projector and screen

I dont really understand who Sony is marketing this product too?

By the time there is any amount of content, the game will have moved on - and got much cheaper no doubt.

I'm all for the progression of technology though early adoption (with nothing to view) in the domestic sector is for people with more money than sense. A lot more...

Price tag and 4k aside there is only a small market for an 84" TV and Sony are considerably cheaper than the large Panasonic screens on offer. I suspect most will be found in commercial situations with the VW1000 reaching more domestic set-ups.

If the TV is anything like the projector then the 4k content is not the whole story. Ignoring the 4k material the VW1000 is stunning as a projector and in my experience not quite the reserve of those with more money than sense.
