I've just received a download of The Hot Club of San Francisco, it's 17 tracks, nearly 4 Gig, 24 bit, the sample rate is 176.4 and it's a WAV. The Bitrate is 8467kbps! I'm playing it in iTunes and streaming via an Airport Express. It sounds excellent. Eat your hearts out CD player owners! It's official Computers provide the best quality audio! Ash

Interesting.
I am using Stello DP220 (known as swiss army knife of digital age) and it has upsample function to differnt bit rate. I have been play with it (as you would expect) and imo, it's all down to the studio recording in the first place. If the mixing engineer having a lazy day or drunk! the best hifi rig in the world is not gonna help, upsample can make it sound even worst!
Are you listening through AVI 9s system?

Ob, this is not upsampling. Upsampling takes a a 16/44.1 source and *ups* its, whereas Ashely is talking about true 24/176 recordings, way above CD!

My understanding is that the Airport Express only functions at 44.1kHz. Sample rates above this are converted to 44.1kHz prior to streaming. Correct me if I'm wrong.
