Hi,

I'm looking to purchase a 2.1 Home Cinema system to complement my Samsung 40a656 but i'm already a bit lost by the choices, I have a budget of £300-£400, i've considered seperates but want to keep my system limited to as fewer parts as possible, I appreciate i won't get the same quality with an all in one system.

I currently still have a 5 year old Panasonic 5.1 HT70 which to my untrained ear still seems to give a good account of itself and half decent picture but won't play divx movies etc and but it now looks very dated next to my new tv...I guess i'm looking for something that looks good, sounds good and will be an improvement over my current system

Any advice out there?... a 2.1 Super Test in the mag would be very usefull..? and maybe sound bars perhaps..

thanks

Hi Richard

Given your budget, I suggest a couple of options:

1) Sony's DAV-F200 is a very stylish and capable 2.1 system for £350.

2) Alternatively, there's the Yamaha YSP-600 soundbar (£400) that will be reviewed in the Ultimate Guide to Blu-ray, on sale October 31st.

Thanks Andy,

Just one (or maybe two) stupid questions..

The Sony does look really good but I notice the main unit stands upright, is that the only way it can stand or can it also sit flat, in other words will be fit comfortably under a normal sized 40" TV stand and is it easy to get access to it to load discs etc?

Do you think based on what you know that the Sony beats the equivilant model from Samsung, the HT X710? That does look good and matches the tv but it admittedly is hard to resist the pull of the sony..?

cheers
