I subscribe the WHFSAV and enjoy reading many of the articles, this month is no exception with the section on comparison one of the better articles. However that said I think an opportunity was missed in the 1080p comparison test. The majority of the viewing public in the UK looking for a new TV I think would have been interested not only in looking at the comparison between HD Ready and Full HD TVs with Blu Ray but with vanilla SD freeview/Sky SD broadcasts. I think there is little value at the moment in just comparing Blu Ray on the sets are there are just too few people with this technology. What do you think?

[/quote]I totally agree with you 100% years ago when they used to review CRT tvs they expained what the quality was like for DVD, standard tv & Sky etc but now its mainly based on just HDTV! I Realise that they are made for high definition but we all still watch the majority in standard def.

my view is that in five years 1080 will be the norm for most people and even if i didn't have any 1080 sources would still like to be future proofed as these tv's have a very long viewing life

The irrititating or tragic thing (depending on which side of the fence you sit) is how quickly we get used to something. I've had a 1080p picture now since before Christmas and all my discs play at that resolution (upscaled and native). My HD TV box ouputs at 720p because I prefer a progressive picture and there's not a huge difference, I think. Anyway, I now can't watch SD pictures without (silently) complaining. A non-upscaled DVD looks like VHS to me now! And I remember how much we all ooohed and aahhed when DVD first came in. We were all so impressed, and now look at us! 1080 is now the standard, love it or hate it. It will be the norm for all TVs going forward and our kids won't know any different. Until 3240 comes in.... Or 6480.......

Think you missed the point there. What bicoralboy was saying was that most of the people today (incl those who read WHF) watch the vast majority of tv in SD. The ltd amount of HD content means a 'here and now' test of the tvs performance with SD Sky or Virgin would have added to the relevance of the test.
