Hello all,

I'm after the benefit of your wisdom yet again, i have £450 to spend on finally upgrading my amp (which has been a weak link in my system for some time) but i'm undecided as to what to buy. I had in mind that i would get a Denon 1910 but this is now being replaced for the 1911 so i could get a bargain on a 1910 or go for the as yet unreviewed on WHF 1911. I have also looked at the Onkyo sr-608 as it seems to be the only new amp reviewed so far in WHF but with so many new models now being released or just about to be released i'm not sure if i should wait a little longer (not that i want to) to see what comes out on top this year at my price point or go ahead and purchase one of the above now??

Does anyone know if WHF has an amp supertest on the cards for this price point at any point in the near future?

All suggestions gratefully received, thank you [:)]

Hmmm...thats alot of receiver for the money! Never even considered it due to the price but as it's been discounted i'm definately interested but would it be overkill for my system?

Another vote for Joel's suggestion. If you don't want 3D, I think you'll get better value from the previous generation of amps. This will allow you to make a more worthwhile jump forwards from your present Sony. £450 is a bit tight to make much difference, but I think the extra £50 for the 2310 would be well spent.

Only you can decide that oldboy...

I'd go for the 2310 given it's such a good deal. Try to bargain them down a bit more too.

Yep that sounds like a plan then...only 1 fly in the ointment, am i right in thinking all Denon amps have to be purchased in store due to an agreement with Denon when retailing their equipment? That would mean having to wait untill the weekend but that's not too much of a problem i'm just impatient and want it now lol.

Any hints and tips on where to go and where i might be able to barter a little to get it nearer my budget?

Thank you very much for all the replies so far guys, it's been very much appreciated

I just called richer sounds when i ordered my stuff, paid over the phone with the credit card and arranged delivery. Not online but i didn't have to go all the way down there either.

JoelSim,

That is a brilliant suggestion. At £500, the AVR-2310 is the best amp out there!

Bit over budget again, but the Pioneer VSX-LX52 for 589.00 delivered, was like 1100.00 THX Registered as well.

Bit too far over budget that one i'm afraid but a great suggestion, part of me is now having thoughts of saving extra cash for more options...decisions, decisions

Don't spend too long thinking about it though, otherwise the summer bargains will disappear.

I spent 2 1/2 years humming and hawwing and finally took the plunge last week with a 2310 on offer.

Now definitely seems to be the time to grab a deal on an outgoing model.

I too am thinking of investing in a new A/V amp later this year and whilst I was keen on the 1910 previously, the 1911 offers 3D capability so think I will wait for that instead. The 2310 looks liek a great A/V receiver too but I don't believe it offers 3D capability?
