£400 for floorstanders to match Sonos - help?

ok - fairly standard size room an a cottage - so walls are solid.

Just purchased a Sonos system. I want to run foorstanders to avoid having to run a sub aswell.

What would be a good match? i'm looking at either black or wood finish (darker colours would be better), and want to avoid silver on them.

They'll not be needed for movie set up - Stereo music only.

All help would be really appreciated.

Monitor Audio BR5 in dark oak or black might suit. They can go low in the bass for the compact size,they do have titanium effect surround on the drive units ,not as blingy as silver though.

soo - it looks like the Tannoy F4 customs get the vote?

have they been reviewed by WHF?- i can't see it any of my mags at home.

anyone know if they come with feet / spikes / platform etc?

I have the Tannoy F4 and I think they are fantastic speakers

I also like the Wharfedale speakers on the link below - If I had to pick now I would got for the 9.6's due to larger drivers but that's me and I only payed £120 for the F4's so I'm happy

As for the link to the Warfedales - now they've thrown a spanner in the works!!

they look good. Are they any reviews out there?

I suppose i'm wondering which is the better investment as well as matching the Sonos well

Indiana line speakers are very good for their money i have read.

They are popular in Italy but i think they can be hard to find in the UK.

am i making a mistake in thinking that if i get floorstanders all will be well, but if i get standmounts/bookshelf then i'll have to get a sub?

I know there are some excellent standmounts out there but I thought for stereo perfomance you'd need a sub to marry with them?

i'm liking the warfedale or tannoy - hmmmmm - which ones?

It depends on the size and how much bass your room reveals... and your taste of weight to the music of coursse.

I happen to have Wharfedale speakers in my setup, they are very good!

I compared them to an expensive B&W 800 serie speaker and the wharfedale stood the test very well! But i do have the more expensive evolution model though.

I compared the Wharfedale's with lots of other speakers to... I liked Mission on a budget to but didn't liked Tannoy with my receiver, it sounded a bit flat for me.

But if your budget allows it try some Dynaudio's! They really moved me! And some day i will get dynaudio or something that betters it if that is possible.

But try to find a good match with the rest of your system!

I encourage you to bring your equipment to a dealer and try some speakers to listen to. That is vital to make a good setup and not just reading about it!!

For example, i tried some expensive proac speakers in my setup, reviews were very positive but they did sound awful! In an other setup i guess they can sound good.

Cables do play a part to but i'm getting of topic with that.
