hi i already have a good ish surround system but want a dedicated amp cd speaker combo now and please dont laugh at my 1st suggestion . i have 685 b&w front and back now could i run my new cable in to them as well as my surround cable (only one system powered up at once of course)? or do i need a amp , cd and speaker combo? if i did i already fancy the ATC sc11s but im open to advice please?

It's not considered very wise to plug two amps into one set of speakers (unless you're bi-amping of course, which you aren't), the potential for blowing things up is too high.

It's a definite no.

An alternative would be to upgrade your processor to one good with music as well as movies and add a CD player. Most processors recognise a CD when you put one on by the sampling rate and you can set it up in the menus to select the front speakers and sub only.No cable switching this way.Unless you listen to surround sound music the rear speakers only play sound effects so you could later upgrade the front speakers (you will have to upgrade the centre as well to maintain the tonality) if you wished. If you go for a separate system it's probably better in another room as unused speakers in proximity to other speakers can affect the sound. If you want to use you current speakers with a separate amp then you need a speaker switching box to switch between systems.Hope this helps.
