Now I know £200 is not a alot to improve on my already great system (well I think so..)but what would you buy? Should I get a new cable? maybe get the statmat CDi blue plus & maybe something for my turntable? any suggestions would be much appreciated 🙂

Regards,
Me

Definitely Chord Odyessy speaker cable and/or interconnects.

I have chord epic speaker cables already but the odyssey interconnect I have not...could possibly arrange a home demo to check if it makes a huge difference from my brilliance synergy 🙂 thanks plastic penguin

Hold on...there is no odyssey interconnect 🙂 ha ha...maybe chorus 2 or anthem 2 perhaps

Music! Hours of enjoyment rather than OCD inducing scrutiny.

igglebert:Music! Hours of enjoyment rather than OCD inducing scrutiny.A very good point. Music is what it is all about. I fancy the statmat CDI blue plus though, small outlay but huge dividends 'allegedly' 🙂

Or get to a record fair and seek out some cheap vinyl and/or some achingly good rare stuff...

Beresford TC-7520 or a Caiman DAC. (£200 - £235 inc VAT) Or a Musical Fidelity V-Dac for around £150

Opens up lots of new sources of music. Plug in the laptop for BBC iPlayer/internet radio/youtube/Spotify etc. Plug in your Freeview tuner or Skybox for excellent radio. Plug in your BD or DVD player for excellent 2 channel sound from your movies. (If your BD/DVD player/recorder - or even your TV - also has a Freeview tuner built-in then that kills two birds with one optical connection.)

We have this on right now. Sounds stunning. (Only marginally less good than my Naim tuner with roof aerial). Waaaay better than DAB.

From Statmat themselves;

"Statmat eliminates the problem of low-level
voltage surges, by evening out the electrostatic charges which build up
during play. This results in greater resolution and separation, a
wider, deeper soundstage, enhanced power and dynamics and an overall
cleaner, crisper sound.
"

I'm a believer in many an obscure product but £40 for something that claims to control electrostatic charges? What a load of tosh. The spindle motors ground removes what static lays present but that is miniscule and unmeasureable and has zero effect on laser pickup or component grounding. It's another 'snake oil' product if you ask me.

It's had several great reviews- so maybe no harm in trying really 🙂 if one does not try, one will never know.

Get some Nordost pulsar points mate, I just put a set under each of my speakers that are on a concrete floor, wow immediate improvement, am looking at using them under the CD player next, well worth the money IMHO.

Maybe some more music/LPs to enjoy if you can get a good deal.

Alternatively, there are loads of great upgrades you can get within this budget, including as sujggested a Statmat, Pro-Ject Cork Mat, gel pads for speakers?, atabites for speaker stands if not already filled?, better interconnects as suggested too..

The big question is though, what do you really want for your system for xmas?

12 month spotify premium subscription £120, decent soundcard or DAC errm, takes you over the top, but as you are paying for spotify on "HP" it frees up some £££.

Music or a decent pair of headphones 🙂 Plenty to be had for under 200

Agreed. Ditch the tweaking and start enjoying the listening!
