Speaking as a fellow Edinburgher, I've never been impressed with the AV displays in John Lewis'. Decent enough place to buy furniture. TVs? That's a bit harder when it comes to making a judgement.

Surely we can all agree; above a certain (possibly relatively low) price point, the law of diminishing returns bites hard, really hard. It's a question of how much you're prepared to pay for that extra that perhaps takes a really good system and makes it truly silly...

I've got a Pro-Ject Headbox S connected to my blu ray player in the bedroom, absolutely transformed my lower-end Sennheisers, never regretted the purchase for a second, 100% recommended. :)

Starting once again from scratch, in terms of any sort of serious system, I'll be getting an Oppo 105, which, as most of you know, will play the lot, from CDs to the new-fangled high-res audio-only BDs, plus handling all manner of downloaded music. How much physical media I'll have as time...

Yeah, I've seen the specs, as I say, I was keen to read any reviews, hear about any Forum Members' personal experiences, if anyone has one of the modded players. However I suspect they may well be very rare "in the wild", as it were. :)

So, has any lucky soul been able to get a listen to one of these rather expensive beasts? I'm keen to learn what they bring to the table over and above what the standard model does. The only review I can find is in French, and google translate very often....doesn't. :)

I would suggest that you need to get into the realms of the top-end Marantz or Oppo BD players. Especially the latter, with its excellent audio components. That said, I have the Sony player one below in the range from yours, and I've never experienced any problems as such, although it's not...
