    HomePods

Ah, the mains cable was conveniently missing from the keynote pictures!

    HomePods

Thought I'd come and see what my learned friends made of the Apple sneak preview of the HomePod.... ...but nothing! And nothing on the AVI forum either! Baby B&O smart speakers which might sound OK, but likely be somewhat lacking the bass dept. Also a little confused as to how they are powered.

Dynaudio emit 20 vs Excite 18

Are you talking about the M10's (which I also found underwhelming) or the M20's (to my mind a LOT better, but I clearly know nothing)

    Spiritland event

I'm wondering if this event may be of interest to people here. I know we've discussed it before... http://spiritland.seetickets.com/event/the-living-voice-sound-system-with-kevin-scott/spiritland/1067606 I'm not sure what room correction has been applied yet.

ATC SCM11 vs SCM12 with arcam amps or active monitors

I've not heard the DM10, but my ADM9rs are pretty damn good - and are half the price. I would avoid the DM5's personally as they lack some useful functionality and are more towards headphones in style. I'd love to hear the Kef LS50 Wireless some time, but they're pricey.

    Transcoding DLNA servers for Ubuntu?

Ah, interesting - I have that on my Mac. Will give it a try!

    Transcoding DLNA servers for Ubuntu?

I've got a few DLNA servers on my Ubuntu box, but I now find that my Panasonic DVD player (that can act as a DLNA client) is very fussy when it comes to formats - so I think I need to use a server that can transcode - eg. from .mov to .mp4 Any suggestions? I was wondering about the...

    KEF LS50 Actives anyone?

Surely they can add it as a firmware upgrade?

    Bookshelf Speaker Recommendations

As with many of these things, there's no way to avoid the "hard yards" of auditioning!

    Bookshelf Speaker Recommendations

I agree with Mark - expensive speakers tend to expect expensive amplification, which the Sonos is not. Is there not a Sonos Connect preamp that would work well with active speakers? I would tend to go for second hand AVI DM10 which would come within your budget (or DM5 depending on how big your...

    Decentish micro speakers

Acoustic Energy Aego 2.1 sounds ideal. Very tempted to buy a set of them to try!

    Decentish micro speakers

I'm wondering about getting a couple of very small (about the size of a mug) speakers to use at my desk. They would need to have volume control and be capable of taking the output from a Chromecast Audio - not particularly tricky, I'd have thought. And it might be useful if they could come with...

What is good hi fi for you

Funny to hear about Auratones. I once built myself a portable stereo using a pair of those and a car headunit (which was one of those pull-out jobbies that also fitted in my car). Wasn't bad for that....

CDs, ripping vs playing: do you need a quality transport for ripping CDs?

Major - wouldn't your test be missing out on time-domain errors? So people would start using the J-word to undermine your test?

WHF Review - this is what I talked about...

That's a pretty poor review IMHO! I give it ** However, that's not to say that the conclusion is wrong (although I don't quite get 3 stars for 'compatibility') it kind of fits with my view on where Tannoy are going these days. Trying to leverage a once-great brandname by churning out rubbish. I...
