swapping to a music streaming amp

Be aware that a streaming amp will be obsolete once streaming services come and go, or change their API's and the amp manufacturer doesn't provide software updates anymore. A pure analogue amp will never be obsolete. Especially if they don't use any proprietary components. When the services...

    Tidal

I'm at a point where the only functionality I want is to be able to search for an album. I don't want any algorithms, playlists etc.

    Roksan amps, old and new

TO be honest, it's really overrated. One of my amps has Dirac, but much better results can be achieved with positioning the loudspeakers and listening seat. There are a number of reasons why DSP's are not the best option: - You change the character of the loudspeakers and those...

    Goodbye Qobuz, hello Spotify Lossless!

If you play an album via a streaming service just as much as you would play a physical album the artist would earn the same with services like Qobuz. Let's say you play an album 50 times, and an album has 12 tracks. Qobuz pays about 0,02 USD per track streamed. The artist get 10...20%. So the...

Rip, store & play cd collection

Something simple is just play CD's. I ripped all my CD's years ago, but bought a CD player again, because it's much nicer to play CD's than fiddling on a smartphone screen to find the albums. And if I don't want to play a CD, I stream the music from Tidal.

    Audiophiles are Full of C***

You can check the dynamics and see if there's (much) clipping in the track. But there's nothing wrong with compressed sound or clipping, as long as it was the intention of the producer/artist. For example: I think the two albums Taylor Swift made with Aaron Dessner sound great. But from a purist...

Question Advice on a networked amp with speaker A & B output.

In this case I would buy two Sonos Amps or Bluesound PowerNodes. Than you have networking/streaming functionality, multiroom playing and enough power to fill these rooms. A bit more than 1k, but more versatile and you don't have the issues with 4 speakers to one amp at the same time. And less...

What are your thoughts on Synthesizers and music created by Synthesizers.

A few years back there was a Dutch TV documentary about electronic music. Andy McCluskey of OMD was interviewed and one of the questions was about whether is was "real music". He grabbed the camera an panned over the keyboards and asked the question: "Wheres's the button 'Make a hit record'?".

Question What's your next HiFi purchase?

I should've written this last week, but this weekend I bought a Fiio KR11 DAC/Headphone amp. My old AKG K701 never sounded better that with this amp. And the KR11 feels really solid and has a proper power supply. Unbelievable for just 140 euro or so.

    Room correction- mainly analogue setup

I wouldn't use it in the analogue chain. For room correction the signal is digitised so you loose all the benefits of analogue.

What is the best speakers my needs, dali, kef, rega,or wharfedale

What you can do in that case is to choose music you really know very well, and check if you hear something that you haven't heard with your current speakers. And make notes of what you hear. You can use that to try other speakers at an other location. Not ideal but probably the best option...

    Compare Marantz Dacs

Exactly. And you only need a very small difference to get the impact. Less than 1 dB is sufficient to stand out.
