    The fun never stops

Makes me laugh seeing nerds argue the toss over MM versus MC when you could buy a nice streamer and enjoy high fidelity sound!

Lossless audio is not that important

Possible fault with KEFs or NAIM

Hi there. If you've swapped the speakers over and swapped speakers and it's still quiet on the left channel, it does sound like the NAIM NAP 200DR left channel is at fault. Have you swapped the outputs from the streamer to the NAIM NAP 200DR to see if it's the left streamer output or the left...

Lossless audio is not that important

I understand people having a sonic preference, but I think if every part of your system is transparent to the recording and doesn't impose its own colour, then this neutral sound is the best outcome. If some recordings sound bad through a neutral system, then that's a shortcoming of the...

Lossless audio is not that important

I defiined what you said I couldn't define and now you're moving the goalposts. My system has a high res CD player, which I don't use and I use a lower quality streaming platform instead.

Lossless audio is not that important

I bet I can. A CD based system, like my Audiolab Omnia and NOT anything vinyl based. Vinyl is inherently low res.

Lossless audio is not that important

Lossless formats such as CD, or FLAC copies of CD, can only be appreciated with a high resolution system anyway. If your system is mediocre, FLAC and mp3 files probably sound very similar. A very high resolution system will reveal the quality of a lossless format and ruthlessly reveal the...

    Go Back to CD?

I'm open minded about many things, but I don't believe these expensive, external anti-jitter clocks make a difference to the final sound. It's like expensive cables, just another example of the HIFI sector brainwashing people into buying unnecessary stuff with outrageous price tags. 'We know...

    Go Back to CD?

If people like you didn't come out with so much garbage, I wouldn't need to repost the same facts. Let's see blind listening tests between clocks which vary within a few nanoseconds. I doubt anyone can hear the difference between 2 clocks in a HIFI system. It's complete nonsense. It's another...

    Go Back to CD?

Your ten quid Casio will be a better timekeeper than any Rolex or similar type of watch. This is the bling and status symbol mindset within society. Expensive watches are jewelry, much like expensive HIFI. Massive lumps of aluminium and the actual useful circuitry could be held in your hand...

    Go Back to CD?

So we shouldn't care about measurements and facts and objectivity, just accept that people think it sounds better because it's expensive? If it can't sound better, then it doesn't, regardless of how someone perceives it to sound. We can all come out with that nonsense. 'I think vinyl sounds...

    Go Back to CD?

I disagree 100% A transport won't have a sonic signature because it produces zeros and ones. If anyone can prove they can hear a difference between transports in a blind listening test and always choose the correct device, then I'm willing to change my opinion.

    Go Back to CD?

All a CD transport needs to do is send binary data to an external DAC at 1411kbps. Laser, optics and something to spin the CD. This stuff is over 40 years old now and should cost no more than £100 so what do people think is actually being improved when they buy a really expensive CD transport?

    Go Back to CD?

First, a vinyl revival, then cassette tapes and now CD, exactly as I predicted ages ago. Thing is, if you rip your CDs to FLAC files and store them, these files are lossless versions and will sound the same.

‘Muddy’ sound using cassette tapes/deck/through quality hi fi components

I don't want anyone to stop playing vinyl, if they prefer the sound. My argument (and I'm correct), is that technically, vinyl will not give you an accurate reproduction, when compared to CD or high res streaming. Again, I thought this site was the pursuit of accurate music playback, not longing...
