    Cassette Decks

I've recently bought an AKAI GX-F31 a very nice direct drive deck.

Bookshelf speakers for a small room?

Budget in the region of £400- £600 incl. stands. I have tried some very nice looking Dali Oberon 5's but I found the to be very overpowering bass wise for their size and my Wharfedale 230's seemed very mild mannered in comparison. This may be because the Dali's were rear ported whereas the 230's...

Bookshelf speakers for a small room?

I'm considering changing my large floorstanding speakers for some bookshelf speakers. My room is on the small side at 3.4m x 2.94m. Any ideas for speakers to compliment(?) my Yamaha A-S501 (its a keeper-no negotiable)

    The 'perfect' system?

"Oh man, wiping down your vinyls with a cloth, positioning the stylus in the groove and racing back to the sofa, so you don't miss the intro and then repeating everything again when you flip the vinyl over, so masochistic but I get it, for most people it's part of the fun." I've solved the...

    The 'perfect' system?

I have no issue with standmounts so I wouldn't have to settle for them its just whether I actually need to go down that route. Interestingly I did try some compact floorstanders last year, some Dali Oberon 5's and they looked gorgeous but I think because they were rear ported the bass from them...

    The 'perfect' system?

I think so too, this upgrade addiction is hard to shake but I've been in self imposed audio rehab for the last 4-5 years with my amp and speakers so I'm getting there 😁

    The 'perfect' system?

Just curious if they would be better in a smaller room in terms of better bass control. However this is probably down to me reading far too many small room forum critics...

    The 'perfect' system?

Very much a budget set up, I'm mostly happy with all the components, although I'm just toying with the idea of some closed box speakers: Rega Planar RP1, AT-VM95E , Sansui SR222, Shure M75ED, Tisbury Audio phono pre-amp, IFI Zen blue, Yamaha AS-501, Yamaha CD-N301, Wharfedale Diamond 230

    The 'perfect' system?

As one of the previous comments has said the perfect system doesn't really exist and my thread title was a little mischievious as I agree perfection is more an aspiration than an endgame. The more I think about it I wonder if imperfect listening rooms are the biggest issue facing most of us hi...

First a vinyl revival, now a cassette comeback..

Not really given it much thought, but now you mention it, is this what you are referring to?

First a vinyl revival, now a cassette comeback..

I must be unlucky as I've had at least 3 'new' decks with misaligned heads. Joking aside my current used deck may well have a misaligned head, but plays fine without dolby so not really an issue for me.

First a vinyl revival, now a cassette comeback..

I seem to have stirred up the dolby deciples and that said I have no issues with home recordings using dolby B or C as they sound perfect on my deck. Music cassettes I found sound a lot better without noise reduction and there is virtually no hiss, also they sound almost CD like without being...

First a vinyl revival, now a cassette comeback..

I do remember the disappointment of playing a music cassette in my first proper deck an Akai CS34D top loader and it was pretty horrible and muffled. I persisted for a few years with various decks but with same outcome. Fast forward to present day and I've recently aquired a rather nice Akai GX...

    The 'perfect' system?

Over the years I've gone down the upgrade path and sometimes instantly regretted the choices I've made. However I've recently come to the conclusion that my current system, albeit modest, is both functionally and aesthetically the best system for my needs. That's not to say that the desire to...

    Bass traps?

Hi all, I would like to do some furtive  room treatment in 'my' listening room and I'm thinking of some free standing bass traps behind my speakers. What do you think of these? Bluetone Acoustics Tube BassTrap - Premium bastrap - Akoestisch paneel (Silver) : Amazon.co.uk: Musical...
