    Stylus upgrade

I have upgraded my regular Ortofon OM10 stylus to the 40's one and I could immediately tell how sound presentation improved even better, despite Ortofon OM10 itself, or its "Red" equivalent, both being not bad in the first place. If any turntable is decent enough, it is worth to consider...

    Digital-only system for £1000?

    Monitor Audio A100, I say

    Bi-wire question

From your description it looks like you are about to significantly upgrade the sound of your JPW speakers! Only do not forget to use exactly the same wire for your jumpers as used to link speakers with the amplifier. OK, I'm joking.

    New Cd Player

Marantz PM6XXX series are very successful and that's for a reason. These integrateds are able to really surprise in the way how they sound, despite their budget price tags. And yes, the built-in Marantz DAC is not quite *Marantz* DAC, but a third party converter, which is also being used in...

    New Cd Player

Marantz PM6005/6 sports a particularly talented DAC, namely Cirrus Logic 4398, also featured in, i.e., twice as much expensive and broadly appreciated Quad Vena, and is a must for listening. It is really enough to give this DAC few seconds before quickly realising how good this converter is...

    New Cd Player

Since PM6005 already has a pretty, pretty decent DAC built-in, why not go for a CD transport rather than for another DAC built into CD player? CD transports are superior to players. The cheapest and the most decent at its price CD transport available would be the Cambridge CXC. But if you are...

    Cables...

Yes, I used to utilise them C-Lines between my Marantz PM6005 and another Marantz source, before I upgraded my HiFi set up, and they really sounded like a brilliant match. I couldn't think about anything better for around £35 at that time. Maybe some solid core interconnets from Audioquest, but...

    Cables...

I would recommend to use analog interconnect, to take the advantage of the built in DAC and then turn the "source direct" function on on the amplifier for best results. Chord's C-Line (£35 a pair) sounds nice for the job. Audioquest's Type 4 solid core speaker cable brings nice and affordable...

    Need advice for new hi-fi

Although I myself happily use a CD player (transport to be exact), in your circumstances I would choose between CD and LP sources. To be more precise, I wouldn't bother myself with buying a CD player. I would couple a turntable, if you insist on a record player, with the UK version of Onkyo...

    Headphone vs speaker frequency response

A lot depends on headphone amplifier itself. Same headphones, but different integrated amplifiers with hadphone sockets and the sounds are of pretty opposite qualities. I totally dislike headphone amplifier of, i.e., great and popular Marantz PM6005/6 series. But check Cyrus out and you will be...

    Aesthetic System matching

I'm going for Cyrus/Neat/Rega set up. And only in silver, if possible, please! Blacks look like just another empty, plasticky boxes from PC World, I just couldn't stand them.

Rega Elex-R problem: sound bleeding into other inputs ???

One can do this while recording one source and playing another or while sending one source output to another room while listening to a different source in the current room. To answer your next possible question, yes, there is someone in another room and yes, some people still do record a bit

Rega Elex-R problem: sound bleeding into other inputs ???

To be more precise: this (bleeding) only occurs on line 3 when line 5 FM tuner is on, while all other inputs remain totally clean (silent - line 1 and two digital). I didn't check inputs which are not in use. Just as a curiosity - Marantz PM6005, for instance, doesn't suffer from any bleeding...

Rega Elex-R problem: sound bleeding into other inputs ???

I have got a similar issue on my new Cyrus amplifier. The bleeding disappears though when I activate the given input (switch the connected to it device on). I would say this is normal and most folks even won't notice it.
