If you think you don’t need EQ, you haven’t tried it

Yep, my measurement 'system' is: MiniDSP UMIK-1 Microphone ~£50 Behringer UCA-222 (USB Soundcard Input/Output DAC) ~£25 Any 3m+ Interconnect for UCA into Amp, the UMIK-1 comes with a 3-4m USB cable. REW is free as well, just need to register on the Forum Website. Its all pretty cheap...

If you think you don’t need EQ, you haven’t tried it

If you want to extend the bass, rather than EQ out peaks then a seperate Sub would be a better option. I would leave the speakers alone, the sealed enclosure on the SCM40s is an advantage as sealed speakers are generally easier to integrate with subs. You could also use DSP to integrate the...

If you think you don’t need EQ, you haven’t tried it

Don't use EQ/DSP to boost dips, only ever cut peaks. Address any dips with passive treatments otherwise you run the risk of damage to your amp.

If you think you don’t need EQ, you haven’t tried it

AFAIK the Dirac series are plug-and-play soloutions, the MiniDSP 2x4 is a bit more hands on, but you just buy the board, select the $10 PEQ plugin and away you go. I had mine inbetwen the Pre and Power Amp, or if your amp integrated has a Pre-Out/Power In.

If you think you don’t need EQ, you haven’t tried it

Hi, yes, stuffing was in the ports to reduce the output, i tried different amounts a locatiōns in the Stirlings Distributed Port System, as well as foam bass absorbers and measuring the effects of lifting them up (floor bounce). The Antimode is easy in that you press a couple of buttons but...

FWIW, I prefer the MiniDSP 2x4 unit over the Antimode Dual Core, more flexible and easier to use, a LOT cheaper too.

If you think you don’t need EQ, you haven’t tried it

I have used both a MiniDSP module and Antimode in two seperate systems. I would say it CAN help but its not a 100% soloution, I found, especially with bass issues that a lot can be tuned out with measuring equipment, some passive room treatment and a bit of time. As an example below, the...

To sell or not to sell my Acoustic Energy AE2s

I really like the AE2s, they tend to go for £400-£500 if in good condition in the Black finish, or Rosewood probably around £700-£800ish. Some mint pairs have gone for more. Really nice speakers, I would say better than anything for the equivelent price now. Dynamics, punch and BIG sound, well...

    Damping Factor

Dampening Factor is just the relationship between the Amplifiers Output Impedance (Usually less than 0.1 Ohms on most SS Amplifiers) and the speaker impedance. So, with an 8 Ohm speaker, and output impedance of 0.1 Ohms you get a DF of 80...

Thanks, yeah getting used to them, certainly a different flavour to the Regas.

    An odd collection...

A bit of a change, the R9s have been excellent and had no real desire to change but some Tannoy Stirling HE's came up for a price 'to good to resist'. The R9s have gone out on loan to a friend and the Tannoys slotted in straight after the Scalford show.

    equalizer alternatives

The MiniDSP module is excellent, around £100 new and controlled via USB/PC input. http://www.puriteaudio.co.uk/node/141 Extremely easy to use, real time adjustment and with the UMIK-1 microphone you can measure and import directly into the software, and creat EQ profiles from that. Really...

    The panel speaker thread

Lovely, even better value than I was looking at a few years ago, I eventually bought my old pair S/H for £600, technically second hand but they were BNIB. I hope you enjoy them!

Magnepan do the entry MMG for around £700 imported directly with Import Duty, Delivery and VAT. They also do the MG12 via dealers in the UK that tend to be around £800-£1k Ex-Demo too.
