    New Mission CD transport

May I ask in what way you find it slow? Is it the tray mechanism, the disc reading speed or the responsiveness of its controls?

    New Mission CD transport

Anyone got experience (or seen a helpful review) of this transport since it has been widely available since launch?

Choosing new speakers. Fyne vs PMC vs KEF

I have not tested Fyne speakers but have compared KEF R3 with PMC Prodigy 5 and an ex-demo pair of PMC Twenty5 23i speakers, all being roughly the same price. The KEFs were easily the first to go because of their lack of involvement. The shootout between the two PMCs was much more difficult...

Downsizing: can I get a similar sound for much cheaper?

Just picking up on this thread, so my response is probably more relevant to your original question. Having worked abroad myself for nearly a decade (back now) I went through a similar time figuring out how it might work. Regarding what to plan for at the other end, it so depends what...

swapping to a music streaming amp

You mention the Primare having ‘superior sound’ compared to the WiiM, but if just using both as digital transports should this not mean they will sound identical?

    Does streaming make us lazy?

One issue with streaming (be it lazy or otherwise) is that you are forced to listen to the versions/masterings that your streaming service has. Many of my favourite album masterings are not available on streaming so I am glad I have the particular CD version.

    Question Cyrus CDi-XR anyone?

Yes, the M2 has a desktop mode now which bypasses the internal battery when fully charged. Of course you need a headphone to dual rca cable, but these are widely available. The chain is just as you describe.

    Question Cyrus CDi-XR anyone?

The Mojo 2 - either the £249 run out version or the brand new £349 one - would be a great place to start. I have the Cyrus i9 XR amp and I prefer the sound of the Mojo feeding it compared to using the amp’s own DAC (allegedly identical to that in the CDi-XR), so you might save a whole lot of...

Side By Side Comparison Naim v Lyngdorf

It is good to see UK hifi manufacturers are finally starting to see sense compared to their peri-covid era pricing, which never did seem fully explainable by supply chain issues. The £4K the PE can now be purchased for seems much more realistic. Hopefully this bodes well for both the companies...

Do Streaming transport make better sense?

…….. unless the DAC in the streamer is included at little extra cost. A WiiM Pro Plus or Ultra both have serviceable DACs included, so. what point would there be in spending more for a DACless transport instead? Also, if you subsequently had issues with your external DAC, you would have a...

    That is not good.

I’m not sure I understand why anyone would want to spend a fortune on a streamer/transport anyhow. I have just reinvigorated my hifi after 40 years. Received wisdom back then (which was justified) was to spend as much money as possible on the source, a fair chunk on the amplifier and what...

AirPods Pro 3 vs version 2 for sound quality

Much has been made of the better ANC of the new Pros, but I have read inconsistent reports regarding sound quality, with some saying the older pair are preferable. Has anyone been able to compare the two?

    New Tt choice

The bottom shelf and turntable setup looks great but I always wonder how they get the record to turn without any power lead. Or, indeed, how they get any sound without phono leads. Still, why risk the aesthetics?

Wiim Mini with SMSL SU-1 vs Pro Plus?

I think either route will be fine sonically. Not quite what is being asked, but I had a Mini and Mojo 2 which sounded just as good as the current Pro Plus plus Mojo 2. However, remember there might be other reasons for going with the Pro Plus over the Mini as it has more features. For...

New Budget King from Lake District

Good luck to the company. The design style of their products is reminiscent of the A&R Cambridge A60, which is certainly not a criticism.
