Question Audio system for a small (5mx5.5m) living room in a Central London flat

Agreed. Very nice selected system, however, the suggested system was selected by AI, not a human. I'm sure the OP can benefit from our assistance if needed.

Question Audio system for a small (5mx5.5m) living room in a Central London flat

My neighbours have gone away for the weekend so I'm sitting here with my P3's peaking at 85dB and I certainly wouldn't want it any louder. No sub, just speakers, sub not required. In the OP's situation I'd definitely keep sealed box speakers on the list.

Downsizing: can I get a similar sound for much cheaper?

    Me too :)

    Speaker cable

It's just thick to make it look substantial. Remember Monster Cables? They were just normal mains cables with an extra thick sleeve, nothing special, except the price.

Never seen anything like that before, very annoying as they're in the field of view. I'd take them back to the opticians.

The Car Thread (motorbikes reluctantly allowed!)

I'd have the original Mini any day over today's offerings.

Which kind of amp and speakers do you have in your HiFi setup?

It would cost a lot more to replace than what you paid for it 12 years ago, of that you can be certain :)

Wiim Amp Ultra or Eversolo Play

Ha ha ha. Not if the mains socket is tucked behind an audio unit you can't.

Wiim Amp Ultra or Eversolo Play

Look out for standby electric consumption on chi-fi. EU regs is no higher than 0.5 watts on standby, which both my Marantz boxes comply with. The Wiim Ultra consumes 4-6 watts on standby with no off switch. Not huge, but certainly not in line with EU regs. My Topping head-amp has an off switch...

Google is your friend :) Apparently gold ranks third, behind silver and then copper. Gold is resistant to oxidation.

General Hi-Fi post - social media

I learnt very little from my father, he would use a hammer on a screw, god rest his soul :) I've basically taught myself through trial and error. I can turn my hand to most DIY tasks and have bought tools as I needed them. I don't do holidays as such, so I spend my money where I think it's...

    It's in my signature :)

More like: A friend in need is a pita, get rid of them :) Unfortunately, I've had to do that with a lot of so-called friends over the years. Generally ones who always want to borrow my tools or who want you to help them out with their DIY projects, only to become an unpaid handyman. Got one...
