Wanted to drop a quick message to thank everyone for their responses/feedback.
The C4 seems increasingly hard to find so I'm considering holding off for a few months to see if I can get a deal on a 'current gen' TV (like the C5) around Black Friday or January sales. Will certainly check out the...
Hi all. Been out of the TV and home cinema game for a long time and was looking for some guidance on a new TV.
I currently have a 42inch 'HD-Ready' Panasonic TV which I bought almost 20 years ago. I only mention this to make you smile! Can't knock the reliability though - not a single issue in...
Hi Cheeseboy,
Thank you for these tips. I've looked into them and it looks like it's possible to stream the audio. Both Kodi and (something I found called) Plex apparently give you the option to transcode the stream or to stream it 'direct' meaning no the file is just sent like for like.
Also...
Hi Cheeseboy,
Thanks for your comment. Had no idea what Kodi was until I googled and realised it was XBMC! I have successfull played back DTS HD MA on a locally stored file using XBMC. If this works over streaming then it's a possibility.
I suppose this would mean I'd need to add an HTPC to my...
Hi all,
If I have HD films on a NAS and want to stream them to my TV is it possible to stream the HD audio (DTS HD MA)? I heard this is not currently possible? Is this the case or does it depend what you're streaming through (e.g direct to TV, Apple TV, WD HD Live etc.)?
Many thanks,
Thanks Electroman.
Have been thinking that I would reap the most rewards by upgrading my amp as opposed to anything else in the chain. Not that the Violectric is bad, far from it, it's a great match for the LCD2s.
@ Electroman
I've never heard of that problem. Had my LCDs for over a year now and no problems. Either I'm lucky or you're unlucky.
Out of interest what amp are you using for the LCD3s?
@ Benedict Arnold
Once you have used MakeMKV to rip the file try using Handbrake to encode it and reduce the file size. The software is free and could save you a lot of space. Typically the more you compress the file the more quality you sacrifice but you should be able to compress it a bit...
Wow, that Beckham advert is really irritating.
Anyway thanks both for your guidance - I will indeed do a bit of googling and check out the link provided by Cheeseboy
Other suggestions for media servers are welcome.
Hi all, Just wanted to check something with the brains on the forum. I should be able to stream anything (music, films, photos) stored on my PC to another DLNA enabled device provided both are connected to my network right? So if I have my PC plugged into my router and a DLNA enabled TV upstairs...
Hi BB,
I think the decision to mount the TV above the fireplace is the the right one. I have been looking into doing something similar and found that the mantel at the top of the fireplace tends to prevent the fire from heating the TV up, the ones I looked at were either limestone or marble...
Hi The_Lhc
True it would be useful to find out. What's the best way of testing this? Apologies for my complete lack of knowledge - I'm the perfect example of someone who regularly reads the forum but has very little know-how
Cheers,
Hi all, thanks for the input
@BigBoss - thanks for those suggestions, will take a closer look at them
@The_Lhc - Ok I guess the problem would be with his network in that case, but as he's not looking to make improvements to his network I would assume a NAS is a bad idea. In regards to using a...
