    Welcome to the new whathifi.com!

I don't like it either, everything is just too large and unsubtle. It feels like an advertisment. There is no finesse in any of the design elements. Somebody suggested tweakers.net as an example of a good tech website design. Yes, I totally agree. Sorry to be so damning about it, but I've got...

When music becomes to much (emotionally that is)

The emotions I experience when listening to music was exactly why I got into audiophile hifi. Once you've heard good music, on a great sounding system, there is no going back...

    Bristol Show Favourites - hi-fi

Always an enjoyable show and always never enough time. First stop was the WHF demo room , and yes the 4K picture on the Sony screen looked beautiful. A simple demo showing DVD, BD then 4K was a good approach to take. Like others, impressed with the Guru Junior; and had a long listen to the...

HMV Blue Cross sale starts Saturday 12th Jan

I'm waiting for their liquidation sale as I expect 2013 will be the year that HMV will head the same way as Jessops and Comet etc. It's only a matter of time, they've been struggling in the retail market for a few years now. I looked at sale prices yesterday on-line, consistently Amazon is still...

google nexus 7 ..Wifi antenna problems

Have had a Nexus 7 since day one and experienced no problems whatsoever with Wi-Fi. It's a great piece of kit and highly recommend it, far better value than the iPad.

Windows 8 Pro upgrade edition £24.99

Some developers at work have loaded and played with W8 but have been singularly unimpressed, they've reverted back to W7. Unless you've got a touchscreen there seems to be very little benefit in doing the upgrade. Wait for Windows 9 to come along, which I suspect might be along sooner than we...

    Thoughts on Beresford Bushmaster Dac

After reading the positive reviews around the place I ordered last week and took delivery of a Bushmaster yesterday. I must admit though that I started to get cold feet while reading some of the less positive reviews I discovered over the weekend which got quite personal towards SB. I needed to...

Squeezebox Touch dumbed down by hifi dealers

Steve, you won't be disappointed with the SBT at all, it's a superb device. I agree wholeheartedly with all the other positive comments about the device here. If you've got Android devices both the Orange Squeeze and Squeeze Commander are good controllers. I'd also highly recommend upgrading...

    Michael Aspel and PMC?

On the BBC website there's a video of Rory Cellan-Jones interviewing Brian Eno in his home studio. A pair of Yamaha NS1000's are in the background. Nice.

So sad to see how AKG have developed

Was at the National Audio Show at the weekend where they had a whole demo room of headphones from different manufacturers. Clearly a sign that it's a burgeoning marketplace, even in the 'high-end' area. I personally was particularly impressed with the AKG Q701's, extremely good value for money...

    Squeezebox discontinued?

Dixons have some available for £168 and free delivery. Seems pretty good value when others are selling for close to £200.

    Squeezebox discontinued?

Hadn't heard that news. A shame, it's a good device, I have two of them.

NAS drive for home media streaming

Am using a Synology 212J with 2 x 2TB drives, after a poor experience with a Netgear Duo. The Synology works perfectly with my 2 x SBT, all wirelessly. It's excellent kit and I highly recommend it.
