Do I have experience using switches? Yes. They can work great. I prefer managed switches so I can operate separate networks effectively.

I went from the same amp and CDP as you to an Audiolab 6000A when my NAD died and I've been very happy with it.

If starting again I'd probably look at a Wiim and active speakers. So in that case it'd be over 80/20 on the speakers.

I would recommend a studio monitor. They're designed to be used near field, with wide flat frequency response. I have pair of Presonus Eris E5's. They're small, front ported, have tunable bass response depending on positioning. They can also get very loud if you like that

The term high fidelity was coined in the 50's. I'd wager that there is very little audio equipment around today that doesn't surpass what was considered high fidelity then. Today it might mean something different, something that separates it from equipment that is far superior to the best from...

I don't understand that. They produce extremely accurate sound, so are "HiFi". The big thing that's never mentioned with traditional HiFi is that none of it is accurate, which is why things sound so different. Everything in your typical HiFi setup is imparting its own EQ on to the signal...

You're best off getting an audio interface and connecting its outputs to the amps RCA. You don't have to spend much. A Behringer UM2 will probably do the job. I found with my electric guitars through a Helix in to a UM204HD that I was better off with powered monitors,so I sold my Wharfedales...

I'm a big fan of my Audio Technica ATH-M30X headphones. I find them neutral but engaging and very comfortable. The cable is about 40,000 miles long though.
