    HDR

Agreed. I have film maker mode enabled & the added peak brightness is very worthwhile on streamed content. I do not like the extra saturation as seen in showrooms so apart from making sure my 3 sets are in home mode, turn down saturation & have Reduce blue light active on all sets.

Is OLED burn-in a problem? We want your input on one of TV’s hottest topics

We have an LG 55G1, LG 55C2 & more recently, an LG65C3. All but the G1 are left plugged in so do nightly screen maintenance when switch off for the night. None show signs of burn in.

    Review Sony Bravia 9 TV: K-85XR90: A Critical & Honest Review…

Sorry to hear of your disappointment with this model. I own 3 LG OLEDS - a 55" G1, a 55" C2 & a 65" C3. All have so-so antireflection coatings. My experience of Sony OLEDs in showrooms was they were superior in peak brightness, peak saturation & motion control (that's laughably bad on all TVs -...

Question Why Youngsters are not into Hi-FI

I occasionally read HiFi mags from the 80s. I found the advertising aimed very specifically at husbands who refer to their wives as "the wife". These adverts often showed scantily clad women that even fairly sexist teen males would blink at from this generation. There's unlikely to be a single...

    Power conditioners

Doesn't sound like feedback but switching noise. If the case, I would try to find the source such as anything with motors: central heating pumps, shower pumps, old fridges etc. In other words can you isolate the cause? If found, either fixing, replacing or filtering the source before it gets to...

    OLED issues.....

I cannot comment on Phillips OLED (we own 3 LG OLEDs). OLEDs & variants are about the best picture tech about but to get the best out of them - they need to be setup carefully that usually involved switching OFF the AI functions as a good starting point. I also turn down the saturation or just...

What’s the difference between the LG 55 B42 and LG 55B46 apart from hundreds of pounds?

OLEDs do suffer from so-called crushed blacks where many dark tones all look deep black. Some older video can lack shadow detail. Standard def broadcast material can look dreadful. Another area where video standards are poor that OLED shows up the most is motion juddering. Many consumers may not...

What’s the difference between the LG 55 B42 and LG 55B46 apart from hundreds of pounds?

Congrats on your LG OLED purchase! My wife & I bought an OLED65C34 for £1175 (with a rotating base that we don't use) about 4 months ago while still available. It replaced a 5yr old Sony LCD model with a surprisingly good picture but not a patch on OLEDs that got damaged after decorating

    DAC comparison

I upgraded my Audiolab M-Dac to an M-Dac+ many years ago - I considered the improvement in SQ worthwhile at the time. I could not hear any appreciable difference when changing the filters. If you belief that amplifiers, CD players sound different then why not DACs? I certainly think that the...

    I'm bored with hi-fi.

I periodically strip my system down, clean all nooks & crannies including rear panels, examine all cables then reassemble. Always sounds better. My listening 2 seater tends to get pushed backwards that reduces bass so I push it forward again. Another possibility is to explore an entirely new...

    Thank heavens for Richer Sounds...

Have been to their branches in Reading, Guildford & more recently, Reigate. Not bought much off them but would certainly do so now. They have survived where many more “upmarket” shops have not. Gone are the days where most modest towns had a shop. Then again, the whole industry failed to attract...

Replacement for Samsung QE50Q65T (2020) QLED HDR 4K

A 48” LG OLED if you can stretch to one is my recommendation.

Question 3D TVs died before they had a chance to get good – I think it’s time for them to come back ?

There were 2 TV technologies I thought would fail - 3d & curved screens. Both technologies didn’t account for groups of people watching TV so every viewer would need glasses or 3d switched off if guests arrived in most cases. The anti reflection coating on curved screens wasn’t good enough &...

now at the end of the TV antenna?

We have our dish mounted with explosive bolts - to fall on unruly neighbours if & when! Sky are hedging their bets with their (cheaper) streaming service, IMO. The Smithsonian channel is no longer available & some HD channels still remain unavailable.
