I think you need to listen to a few different combinations of speaker and amps to try and find the sort of presentation you like. All the reviews in the world won't tell you what you will like best unfortunately. If you can't demo the makes you have read might be good for you just try and demo...

Its definitely worth an audition. I wanted to try out an electrocompaniet amplifier as from reviews etc.. it sounds like a presentation I would like but unfortunately no shops anywhere near me stock them.

I couldn't agree more. I must say I've never noticed any settling in improvements with any components except speakers. I think as you get used to a new presentation you enjoy it more perhaps. I've had my A38/cd37 combo for quite a while now but it still impresses me with how real instruments...

Hi mr brown How are you getting on with your A38 now you've had a few weeks to get used to it? For me it just got better the more I listened to it. I feel it really shines with longer listened sessions rather than instant impact short demos (although an hours demo had me hooked :roll:)

I would like to try the kefs as I'm sure they will sound smooth which I like. My girlfriend will be buying me these so I'm trying to keep the price around 200 but I have plenty of time so maybe 250 at a push might be possible or maybe they will be on special offer at some point.

Interesting comparison. It would seem from your opinion that perhaps the momentum are more of an audiophile headphone? Was it the small on ear momentum you tried? I like the idea of both and up to now have not found anywhere to try either of them out. I'm sure the b&w sound fine but...

I would also go for the partial silver set up and upgrade rears later on if you feel the need to. I went from bronze 5.1 to silver 5.1 and its a good leap in SQ IMO.

I would advise trying arcam if it is available where you are as its a perfect match with MA speakers IMO. If not musical fidelity, creek and roksan are also suggested good matches. I found much the same as stevebrock in that moving up from an entry level arcam amp to my top of the range Arcam...

If you dont want an extra box, arcam will fit a phono stage to your A38 I do believe. Not sure how much it costs but might be worth looking into?
