Hi there. Just bought my new RX-V667 and connected with my speakers and TV. I set the speaker parameters automatically using the provided mic.

When I played the first movie (Pirates of the Caribbean in Blue Ray)I needed to have the volume at around +2.5db(more than 4/5 of the amps volume) to hear properly and it was not even that loud. Is this how it should be or am I doing something wrong? With my previous amp an old Sony (10 years old) I have never used more than 1/2 of the volume. Please help. I only use 5 speakers ( B&W DM603 S2 FRONT(floor standers), DM601 S2 SURROUND, CC6 S 2 CENTER ) I have no subwoofer.

Thanking you beforehand

Martinos, can I suggest turning off the auto setup and starting again. In my experience the auto setup features on most Av amps can be bettered by setting up manually.I have never had any success with Audyessy and the Yamaha equivalent .

Unless the Pirates Blu Ray was recorded at a low volume which I very much doubt the Yamaha would be absolutely ear bleedingly loud at 2.2+db.

Start again and set up manually is my advice!

Just tried that disc into my 667 and at -20db its plenty loud enough, (

). Mine was set up with the Yamaha YPAO with some minor tweaks.

Have you tried any other discs?

As "The Limey" says, at +2.5db it will blow your eardrums out.

Yes I have tried other discs. Also it's the same with the sat. The volume sounds regular at -8.0 db.

Well, stating the obvious perhaps, something is not right somewhere. Never had mine as high as -8db( and thats with BD, Sat and music) it would just be to much.

I would recommend a factory reset, instructions should be found in the manual. The try the Blu ray again. before doing any set up.

furthermore, I am sure you already have but check and re check all cabling,

For regular TV, I normally have mine at between -30.0db and -40.0db
Mostly for BD &DVD I have it at around -25.0db.
For real cinema feel with the lights off and phone off I'd have it up to about -16.0db (but that would definitely be it).

I'd set about starting from scratch. There seems to have been something go a bit awry during set up. +2 would likely blow your windows let alone ears :)

indeed at +2 db I wouldn't be able to be in the room.

furthermore just for saftey sake do not turn up the volume above -30db for the time being. don't want to risk any ear or speaker damage or heart attacks with any sudden blasts of power.

Have my startup volume set at -30db for those very reasons.

Hi ikcon19. How is the Blu-ray player sound connected to the amp? Is it by HDMI, digital or analogue connections and are you sure you have the correct input selected? The lack of volume sounds as if you may be hearing 'crosstalk' (may not be the right term) from the input it's connected to, rather than having the correct audio path selected.

Something seems wrong, if I go to -20 on blu-ray the neighbours 3 houses down the street can tell exactly what movie I'm watching. As suggested checking the connections and resetting to factory default would be a good start. After that verify soundlevels before doing any calibration. When resetting to factory defaults the volume should be down to about -40, but verify the volume before playing the disc.

Thank you all for your help. I have tried everything but nothing helps. There is minimal to none volume coming from the speakers up to -60db. The only thing left for me is to reset the receiver but I do not seem to find how. If anyone knows please help.

Thnx

You should be hearing virtually nothing anyway at -60db

Page 102 in the Manual. " The unit cannot be turned off or does not work properly". They suggest unplugging from the wall socket for at least 30 secs. Possible microcomputer hang.

I changed all the settings manually and also I increased the output of the speakers to +5db ( the range is from -16 - +16 ). I think they sound right now ( I do not need to go to +db. But still I am not sure if this is how they should sound ). Anyhow I will take the speakers for testing to see if there is something wrong with them as well.

Thanks for all your help.
