Hey guys, i've been offered a Yamaha 763 for £340 which I canpick up tomorrow but its the display model.  Would getting a display model be a good idea? Especially at this price when brand new can be had for £280?

If you can get a new one for £280 - if, that is, it's available - then paying £60 more for an ex-display one seems pretty daft.

I know, the trouble is I wanted to get it tomorrow 🙂 ÿBut you're right, its such a daft thing to do I will wait or look at some alternative.

ÿ

Cheers,

Daveÿ

If you've found somewhere with a 763 in stock at the moment then you've done well. Nobody I've spoken recently will have them in until sometime in February.
The prices Richer Sounds and the like are advertising them at are pretty well irrelavent since they don't have them in stock - I phoned their branch in Leeds last weekend and all he could offer me was the Onkyo. He couldn't even give a definate answer on when he'd have the Yamaha, Sony or Denon models in.

I'm waiting for installation of a 763 too, and although it's bought and paid for i'd rather wait and be patient than pay over the odds for an ex-demo model. sounds like the dealer is trying to take advantage of the situation by offloading the shop-soiled item to you just as he is expecting replacement stock any day now....
