Had a Polk PSW110 subwoofer that was making a kind of rasping sound rather than a clean rumble. Since it's out of warranty anyway, I decided to take it apart and have a look-see.
Couldn't see anything obviously wrong like a split cone or a piston sticking or abrading on the magnet, so I just put it back together and plugged it in. Only change was to use some Chord subwoofer cables I had brought over from Merry Olde England I had in the attic rather than the el cheapo ones I got here.
Now it seems to be working just fine.
