Would you pay for whathifi.com?

I think that's the wrong question.

IMO. The question should be "Has the revenue from the adverts been spent to give the best forum possible for the money?"

If the forum worked better, your question wouldn't arise....I actually preferred the old design, which itself was far from perfect.

For the record, I wouldn't pay a fee as there are alternatives that are free (and work better).

If it were ad-free? If so, how much? Just curious.

yeh, sorry, nowt. as cno says there's plenty of places that are free and work better. Doesn't mean they have the users and banter, but jumping ship only takes a quick sign up nowadays in these fickle instant times.

Yes I would (within reason), but it would need decent writers / reviewers / archive access / interesting articles, a working search engine and active moderation. (So basically, it'll never happen.)

I don't think Haymarket would be able to resist imposing ads on paying members as well - eventually - so the experiment wouldn't last long.

* As an example, Sky impose ads on paying subscibers too don't they? It's a business, it will happen.

I don't know because I have given up on my subscription because I felt I just didn't need it anymore. Mind you I gave up my Home Cinema Choice subscription too. If I was to pay I would like more interaction with the editors. I suppose I have a budget for it and just depends what would be offered and I suppose I am addicted enough to pay. Part of me might actually prefer it that way. *smile*

The adverts don't bother me. I suppose something like an annual subscription to the mag but it would have to be more intereactive especially with reviews and new products. I would swap the cost of the annual subscription for that. So £30 for a year.

The interaction doesn't have to be on every product just the most popular ones like the Panasonic OLED and the LG OLED and a 4K ultra HD Blu-Ray player with 2 HDMI inputs. One amp I suppose, one headphones, one HiFi thing and that will do. Just the main products each year.

I would not participate in a forum where I don't like the regular contributors and moderation policy, regardless how great it's functionality is, or even if it paid me to use it. I couldn't care less about Lord Heseltine or Google Adsense. It all amounts to how many people are worth staying for.

I don't think I've anything further to add.

As a subscriber to the what HiFi magazine I would object to paying for the website as well.

Currently the website is slower than any other that I use and it is hard to use on an iPad as it keeps jumping around with adverts popping up. Maybe it will be better when Apple releases advert blocking apps shortly.

I miss the old 'whathifi' website; I wouldn't miss this one too much if it disappeared entirely. Sorry.
