Morning all

At present I'm running a NAD 542 CD and a 325 amp with a pair of Dali royal tower floorstanding speakers. I've been thinking of upgrading my cd and amp because I think the bass is a bit fuzzy and it all sounds a little muffled. I'm was thinking along the lines of cyrus because I think I'd like the detailed presentation, but from what I've read this can turn into quite a tiring listen. So my thoughts have turned to niam 5i (italic) as they are apperently more musical. I don't want to change my speakers as I'm happy with them.

By the way I'm thinking of getting all this off the might t'bay.

Any advice is welcome

Cheers

To me the Naim gear has a very unique sound of its own

Plenty of well timed midrange and treble but lacks in bass IMO

I appreciate where youre coming from re your NAD although that could be to do with room positioning and cables etc...

Your CDP is still a good one so I think the likes of the Arcam DiVA A85 integrated amp or the Cyrus 8vs2 integrated amps would be worth looking at

If you did want to change the amp and CDP combo then IMO, for 2nd hand gear, you'll not go far wrong with the Arcam A85 integrated amp and either an Arcam CD192 or the Rega Apollo

Both would have a superb synergy with your Dali's

THanks for the reply. Do you think my CD can hold its own to these more expensive players or would I see a marked improvement if I changed the amp and cd?

i think its quite difficult to give you advice here. You really need to go and listen to some. i have Naim and am hooked on Naim sound but they benefit from their own amps etc others love Cyrus and don't find it tiring and rega also make very good cd players. A good dealer will let you borrow items on demo so you can compare them with your speakers

Thanks for that, I'll have to try to find a dealer with a reasonable seceltion that'll let me home demo then I think

Thats definitely right as they all have there house sound so he needs to find which one suits him best. Incidentally what do you think of the HDX? PS I think you can concentrate on home cinema because thats an awesome hi-fi you got there.
