Sorry to be a bloody nuisance again! Just replaced my old Fuzitsu plasma (no HDMI or scart inputs)which was hooked up to my Arcam 300 AV processor via component cables & RS232 sockets (what is this socket for???). Tried a DVD with my new Philips LCD TV hooked up to my Arcam DVD 79 via HDMI cable - got a picture but a horrible noise for sound. Clearly I've missed or wrongly connected something. The processor is connected to the DVD player via an optical digital cable only at themoment. Is this enough or even correct? There is no RS232 socket on the TV. I did opt for HDMI using the source button on the TV remote. What am I doing wrong? Dont want to use component cables from TV because that defeats the purpose of HDMI. Help!!!!

Hi,

Your tv is connected to the DVD player (HDMI out) via HDMI to an input on your TV, the DVD player to the amp via optical out to an optical in on the amp?

HDMI is not supported by your amp but digital audio is by means of optical (small square hole).

Switch the amp to the optical input.

Switch the TV to the HDMI input representing the DVD player. Images should be sent and displayed by your TV and sound should be sent to the amp via optical.

Should play OK. I am not familiar with either bits of equipment and have based the above on the pictures from the ARCAM site. Hope it's correct!

Cheers,

Cofnchtr.

I have an good optical cable and plugged one end into the DVD player, but which socket do I use on the amp, SAT or PVR? Those are the only ones?

It doesn't actually matter, provided you choose the correct source on the amp when watching the DVD player. Is there not a DVD input? Generally is on most AV amps.

You don't need the RS232 connection incidentally, it won't be doing anything in your setup.

The DVD input on the amp is round, not square. Do I chose the correct scource via on board display? Could I use the audio out sockets on the player and audio in on the amp? I will need 3 1.5 meter interconnects to do it which I dont have at the moment.
