I'm looking to purchase some equipment/software to get music streaming wirelessly in my home. I feel I have two options:

1)

i-pod touch, Airport Express, Airfoil (as I'd want other than i-tunes streaming) App for spotify, i-pod remote app

2)

i-pod touch (ipeng for SB3) Squeezebox3

In option 1 I would have Spotify streaming directly from i-pod to the AE. All other music from Laptop via airfoil (other than i-tunes music, can I use the i-pod to control music with the i-pod remote app or even rowmote?)

In option 2 I understand the SB3 handles a variety of file formats from the laptop and I would use the i-pod (ipeng app) to control things. However, is there any way of streaming spotify to SB3 either from the i-pod (or laptop and then controlled via the i-pod (rowmote app))?

Any other advise would be very much appreciated.

Can you do this? Not used the Spotify app as don't have a premium account, but surely this would be plastered all over as a feature?

You can use the Remote app to remotely control iTunes (assuming iTunes is running on your Mac). Rowmote is able to control Spotify (and probably other apps, though this is the only one I've tested) in so much as you can pause, play, skip track etc. if you have Spotify open on the Mac and a playlist setup already. Don't think you can switch between playlists remotely in Spotify though.

Probably not regarding the Spotify streaming, I misread a previous thread!

I have Windows Vista (not a Mac) Will this create a problem with the remote-app?

Not for Remote (i.e. the Apple app to control iTunes), but Rowmote I'm pretty sure is a Mac only app, so you couldn't use this.

Well yeah, if you have premium, you can just play it through the iPod (or store offline stuff if you don'w want to use your wifi, but can't see why you'd want to do this).

Alternatively there's an 'Airfoil Speakers' app in the app store which allows you to stream to your iPod via Airfoil. Sound's a bit rubbish though.

But you can't stream music stored offline within Spotify on your iPod to an Airport Express? (Just want to be sure as if you can, it increases in attractiveness to me!)
