Why do Dolby TrueHD soundtracks sound so much quieter

Why do Dolby TrueHD soundtracks sound so much quieter than the dolby digital track on the same disc?

I think it's just that they have been mixed at a lower volume. It's a common question this one. I tend to just turn up the volume and not worry about it!

it's just a bit lazy on their part not to equalize all the volumes - like you say not big issue

I thought it's down to the fact that there's more detail in the sound, so you need to apply a bit more power to get the same volume? 5.1 needs to be turned up more than standard telly too.

Yes, I agree.
Also a wider sound stage as well giving a fuller presence when you get the sound levels right.

It's not "lazy"! read up about dynamic range and it'll all make sense.
