Why a recent upsurge in warm or smooth sounding kit?

Don't get me wrong I like warm, but counteracted with a springy sound. Is musical tastes starting to change?

I need enlightening.

What the heck is a 'springy sound' ?

Someone did tell me and it might very well be inaccurate that world wide product like say yammahas AS- and RX ranges get "voiced" for different regions ie America or India? And the euro market is always the warm sounding one.

Would this be similar to the difference between marshall amps (warm-british) and fender amps (super clean, quite bright in comparison and American)

Can this be traced back to the valves made in each country and is it a layover from this?

Just some thoughts

What leads you to think there actually is a recent upsurge in warm or smooth sounding kit?

There's been a few recently, while others have been preaching valve or class A amps. Shall I go on? ;)

:silenced: :shifty:

I've had Arcam amp for many a year and still love it, but not with kit that deadens the natural sound of that brand. I would never, for instance, partner Arcam with Dyns. Smooth with smooth = boring IMHO.

My Leema is meant to be bright and the RS6s I've heard (read) are cold, yet it has a wonderful solidity... no doubt due to room acoustics and sources.

I would never have a valve amp partnered with Sonus Faber or Dyn speakers. That sounds like sonic soup to me...

That wasn't a knock at you Cno... actually a very subtle one, TBH.

I think a valve amp or class A efforts in your price bracket makes sense, due to its outstanding delivery and detail, bass definition... but most are asking about sub-£2k amps and speakers. Personally I think there needs to be a calculated balance.

Depends on the Valve Amp ......you can't generalize with Valve amps, in the same way as you can't with SS ones.

I know that. :)

I've been doing my best to promote the less trodden path....maybe it's having a small effect. :shifty:

Maybe just maybe some people are starting to go off the neutral analytical kind of sound and just want to enjoy their tunes at home and let the studio engineers do the analysing....it's what happened to me anyway. Just a thought.

Cheers, Ed

When i bought my sonus faber speakers, i use unison amps tp demo it & it sounded open & clean. So dn't know what u mean by sonic soup..?

Yes!! finally looks like the end of clinical sounding HIFI is coming to an end. :bounce:. I have said this time & time again that Hifi systems were sounding too clean, removing enjoyment of the music. Hifi companies were buliting system for reviews & 5 stars instead of for music enjoyment.

Lots of people just thought thier systems was sounding too bright & lacking in bass time & time again to the piont were you could only manage a few mins listening.

By that I mean a thick, lush sound.

When I've tried other speakers (Totem, PMC, Spendors...) they are all technically better than the RS6s, but for some unexplained reason, the system seems to lose something... can't quite put my finger on what though.

I've heard some lush systems in the past, and I concede, with certain room acoustics they would sound superb. What I don't 'get' is a recent push for tube amps when they are so impractical.

Although my system is lively no way would call it clinical or mechanical...

You would if you heard a good one, as they are not the lush syrupy devices of days gone by.....and it's all too easy to get hung up on their impracticalities.
