Just wondering where you guys are buying this player......Sony have stock for £299

BT shop great price but no stock for a month......

Any other suggestions ?

Just looked at the BT shop stock due in 1-2 days hope thats true because at £219 seems a fantastic offer.

Hi Clare...wonder if you can offer even more advice..

...what exactly are the differences between the sony 550 and panasonic 55, based on several 'shopping' trips & Awards magazine am buying 46 w4500, & kef 3005se(or possible MT30)...(unsure about which amp)...but as for blu-ray intended to get the 'matching' Sony but obviously you rated the Panasonic higher...just wondered why? Is it a different type of dolby or HD...someone posted about this 'DivX' & sony not running them which I don't understand?

Thanks

We just feel the Panasonic has the edge over the Sony - notably for sound, but also a few other bits and pieces (including ability to play DiVX files - no biggie unless you have discs of downloads, really).

But the Sony is a superb player - hence its five stars - and the added convenience of one remote control to drive both TV and Blu-ray player would be a very reasonable point in its favour for you.

You could also, for example, save some money by buying the Sony over the Pana and put it towards buying the MT30s over the KEFs: that would make more difference to your surround sound (providing you bought a decent AV amp) than the difference between the Sony and Pana Blu-ray players.

Really great 'service' being able to contact the magazine staff.....think that's what I'll do!!

Thanks Clare...

As mentioned in a another thread, I ordered the Sony BDP 550 from BT yestreday and my order status is that it is now with the couriers today.

Good choice you can also make the sony region free with a remote hack and you cant on the pana + the sony scores higher on the HQV benchmark tests apparently

Clare, are you saying that with a decent amp and a good speaker system the sound difference between the Sony 550 and the Pana 55 is minimal? Meaning that the price difference may not be worth it (if playing DivX files isn't important to you)?ÿ
