The Sony delivers better sound than the Samsung, which is average in that department, and Sony's 200Hz Motionflow is awesomely effective. I'd go for the Sony, especially if you can find it at a discount as it's an outgoing model.

Thanks for your reply andy. I not to worried about the sound to much because im normally listening through my bose surround sound speakers. I want the tv to be 200hz really and ive read that the new UE40B8000 will be 200hz too when it comes out, do you reckon i should wait until that comes out and see what that is like or would the sony still be the better choice?

It's really sad when people want others to make their decisions for them.

Do yourself a favour and compare with your own eyes. There will always be something supposedly better on the horizon, get over it and trust your own judgement.

hi movie man if i was you i would definately without a shadow of a doubt go with the 200hz samsung i have seen the sony and the samsung and the samsung looks alot better to me than the sony colour and motion wise so you could only imagine what the 200hz samsung would look like and i don't think you will have to think about clouding issues either hope this helps remember that your eyes will be the the deciding factor on your purchase good luck.

thanks for your replys. i went to have another look at both these tv today and i found that the picture on the samsung had the sharper picture but i found that the sony had a better picture when you turn off the 200hz off, the picture got better in my eye which i thought was strange.. the sound on the sony was good quite bass-ie due to the subwoofer which is built in. I wasnt able to see the samsung with normal tv boardcast on it but ive read on another review its not that good so i need to see the samsung with sky going through it to see what its like. Im still undecided which 1 to get but the samsung did look the better when watching a bluray dvd....

Both are very good TV's - no doubt about it. You'll be happy with either one and as with anything, you get used to its particular characteristics. It really comes down to personal preferences and details.

Yeah your right they are both good tv's but when i see them in action i cant help but think what so all the reviewers see in the sony? Its does have a good picture but like in the reveiws people say you get a better picture when you turn down the 200hz a bit. Which makes me think whats the point in the 200hz. Dont get me wrong the sound on the sony is very good but I still think the samsung has the better picture and much sharper than the sony.. Does anyone know the when the samsung series 8 is out its the same as the UE40B7020 but it is 200hz i just would like to see that tv before I buy 1 of this tvs....?

For what it's worth, I think the 7020 Samsungs are at least par with the Z series Sony's but have the advantages of both LED backlight and slim design, probably positioning them closer to the X series. Good SD too imo. I still think I'd have philips's 'essence' 42" at that particular size, even though it is a bit more expensive and lacks LED. A wonderfully smart looking tv both switched on and off.

i had a look at the philips thats a good tv 2 but what a bit put off with the reviews on how hard the tv is to set up... i think i will probably go 4 the samsung but i will probably wait a bit to see if the samsung series 8 comes out soon..

hey movieman

have you had a look at the panasonic g10 plasma, I have been one of those people that always wanted an lcd over plasma but i now i think the g10 is better than any of the tv we have been talking about. every review site i have read rates this tv as the best out at the moment ( apart from the kuro)

I reckon theUE40b8000 will be coming under 1.5k soon so that could be the time to buy!

I reckon the LED Samsung has probably one of, if not the best High Def pictures I have ever seen, it is unbelievable. However; SD pictures are below par in my opinion, so much so, it would probably put me off buying one.

The Philips Essence has probably the best all round picture (out of all the LCD's) but is really expensive and is only available in 42" (as far as im aware). I must say I am a big fan of Philips and although they can be expensive I do think they are sometimes under rated a bit. I have a 3 year old Philips 42" LCD and was seriously considering replacing it this year as I want a bigger set but I honestly cannot find a TV with a better SD picture; I am therefore holding on to my cash for the time being as I cannot stretch to a Kuro.

I know the Pana's are good but they dont blow me away and I do not see a massive difference when compared to my Philips ... maybe next year will bring better things; im quite happy with my current set so theres no rush.

As for the original question, out of them two, I would probably buy the Samsung if it was my money; but out of all the current sets I would probably go for the soon to be released panasonic V10. Obviously the Pioneer is the best set you can buy, but that costs £2k plus and out of reach for alot of people.
