For the past couple of weeks i have been looking into joining everyone else in the new HD revolution (i have an old sony which is about 10 years old and im 17!) Now i have a very limited budget of about £1,114.00. Now i want to buy the best i can. I originally i was going to go for the Sony KDL-40L4000, for about £529 - £579. But it only had 2 HDMI sockets so i went to comet and looked at it and saw the Sony KDL-40V4000 which i really like colour wise with Blu ray, but also it had 3 HDMI and i can get that for about £629.  But then i saw the Sony KDL-40W4500 but i could only find it at its cheapest at £809 which honestly would leave me very little to get a blu ray play, buy present for christmas and just generally live and have a bit of fun. So i then saw the Sony KDL-40W4000 which i could get for about £706 which is much better overall, but i don't really know much about it, is it an obsolete model compared to the new 40W4500 or can it still hold its own and for the moment is it future proof!?! Please just leave your thoughts, do you think i am being a fool and should just go for the 40V4000 or should i up the price and get the better one or is the 40W4000 good enough. If you write on this post thanks for your help. Joseph

Both are 5 star products and 2008 models with the w4500 winning product of the year, although some have experienced problems with the 4500 so the w4000 could be a safer bet.

Reviews of all three on site - all are current, 2008 Sony models.

We gave Awards to the V4000 (best budget 40in) and W4500 (best premium 40in) - the W4000 is also a great set, but we feel the 'V" isn't far behind (making it superb value) and the W4500 is clearly superior to both, and well worth its premium.

Yes, some people have had issues with faulty W4500 sets, but we've yet to see an affected one. Just make sure you get a reassurance from your retailer that if you're not happy with your set, you can return it.
