Which Headphones?

Im wanting to get some headphones between £200-300.

Im wanting noise cancelling or something similar.

I will be using it to watch films and to listen to music etc.

Im not really bothered about wireless as i wont be going far and i have also heard that wireless can make the sound quality suffer.

Ive been looking at Dr. Dre monster beats Studio Version, as they have amazing reviews and they retail at £280. I have been looking on ebay and you can pick up a set brand new at around £130 :S. So not sure what to do.

Should i look into shure, sennheiser and bose?

Could someone please recommend me my dream headphones

Dr Dre Monster Beats are regularly criticised for build issues and for being over priced for what they do. I have tried them and found they let in a lot of sound. They were also rather uninspiring and dull.

Will you be looking to block out noise from others, or do you need to not disturb others when listening?

Ahh right thanks ill stay away from them.

I want to block out noise from others, not really bothered if i disturb others aslong as its not stupidly loud (sounds selfish haha)

Yes, just as good as the Bose, but much cheaper and better made and with a nice carry case, The Goldring NS1000, also an award winner at WHF.

I've got Bose QC2 since 5 years & it's superb. I've also got the Goldring NS1000 which is excellent as well but the Bose is better at noise cancellation. The Goldring is available for a bargain £59 on play.com

DON'T ever purchase the Dr Dre Studio headphones. My personal experience with this headphones and their customer support is the worst experience I had in my 13 years of hifi indulgance. Read my thread below:

As for the Bose and Goldring, I am in the midst comparing them both. Heard the bose but not the goldring. I heard that the goldring cannot be folded. That will be difficult as I will use it on my frequent travels.

althouh the goldrings don't fold the cups do twist through 90 degrees to sit flat, they also come with a nice sturdy travel case which is also big enough to carry a ipod and a psp go - just come back from san fran and packed both in the travel case with the phones - also comes with a two prong adaptor to allow use on planes - the noise cancelling is good but not great although did remove quite a bit on engine noise and a lot lot better than not at all - i always complained about these and sold on my first pair there are better stereo headphones for home listening but for travel purposes i have now come to be quite fond of them!

I guess its not much different from the Bose then. The bose too cannot be folde but just twist the cups 90 deg to store it in the casing.

Right i have narrowed it down to 2 headphones

-Bose Noisecancelling 15
-Bose Noisecancelling 3

What would you reccomend?

Think the 15 is the later model.

I know but why are they cheaper :S

Q3 comes with a chargeable battery and its an on the ear design, hence smaller cups.

Q15 uses AAA batteries and its an over the ear design, ie bigger cups.

Over ear make you more isolated from outside noise than on ear, but you are more likely to end up with sweaty ears. It comes down to comfort.

I love the sound on my goldrings but they are so leaky i use them as external speakers for my laptop!

hmmm i think im going to have to try them on.

Ive done a little google and the nearset bose stockists are comet etc but i doubt they are going to sell them so think im going to go to york to have a closer look at the factory as its only an hour away and i can also do some christmas shopping aswel haha

Do you have a dealer nearby where you can have a listen? Recommendations are always helpful but as I'm sure some of you will agree, there's no substitute for a demo!
