I presently have a denon 1930 dvd player and it terms of performance I was quiet happy and satisfied. However the lens in the denon got bad just about in an years time.......... i need to replace the dvd player.... i have short listed three...... all in my budget....... 1. Denon DVD 1940 2. Marantz DV 6001 3. Panasonic Blue Ray DMP-BD 30 I am using panasonic PT Ax 100 projector which needs an 1080p HDMI input. On the audio front I am using a bose lifestyle 50 system. Please advice which of the above dvd players you would suggest..... if I get the panasonic DMP-BD 30, will it do a good upscale on standard dvds to 1080p, will it be region free....... or panasonic Blue Ray is not worth, since I am not planning to use any blue ray discs in near future.... so then which is better the denon or the marantz... or i should get the panasonic Blue Ray itam really confused.... please help!!!!!! thansk a bunch

kweq:Hi. Try the cheap Sony DVP-NS78. It is ccooool!!

Can you explain what's ccooool about it?

I agree, Sony is great in DVD player, great functionality, efficient machine.. It has almost all features we need includes program setting. But Samsung has EZ View function like no other brands have, beside that, Samsung is poor in its functional operation. EZ View however is very important to me made Samsung my best choice. I do really like to replace my Samsung with Sony's, but they dont have EZ View.

I bought thus to pair with my Bravia TV. Smooth and quiet

Nice images with high-contrast and vivid, presenting the most lurid colours in a natural, lifelike way. The skin tones on display are especially convincing, with impressive levels of detail.

If you really want multi-region then that rules out nearly all BD players are they are usually region locked for SD although some resellers do offer unlocked versions at an extra cost. With the other two as they are just upscaling SD players it comes down too price.

The Denon can be had for £130-200 whereas the Marantz is £300ish and doesn't seen wildly available. The Sony mentioned is a great MR player and for around £80 and is certainly the cheaper option. I would think the upscaling PQ would be dependent on the quality of the player i.e. the Marantz may do a better job, hence the price tag.

If your not fussed about MR, but I suspect you are, then BD would the more future proof, if BD actually catches on and goes mainstream that is, the Samsung BD-P1400 and 1500 are both under £200 although I would stick with the Panasonic BD-30 or 35 as there have been some recent issues with the Sammy's not playing some BD discs.
