These will never leave the house so looks are unimportant. I'm looking for an even clean sound not bloated bass. Will be used with a variety of systems, but don't have a dedicated headphone amp (yet). Also they must not leak much sound. Suggestions welcome, any bargains around right now??

You can get them on ebay for £100, the AKG K271 Mkii. The most leakless phones you will find. They do not do bloated bass but they are not the most sensitive of headphones at 55ohms, 91dB/mW. However, an ipod Classic at maximum volume sounds fine, so an amp with a headphone out should be better.

i bought Denon's newly released AH-D1100 a couple of weeks ago, and am enjoying them. i play my music straight through a macbook pro with no additional amplifier or dac.

the bass is unbloated (i listen to rock/indie/post punk) and there is enough detail to keep me happy 🙂 however i find the treble a little harsh at times, this could be due to having young ears though. they don't leak much sound i don't think, but if im wearing them how could i tell .

they are on ebay now for around £100. unfortunately there arent may review at the moment, and what hifi themselves havent reviewed them either 🙁 the only things i can compare them to are denons top end in-ears and a few others (akg, Nu-Force and Bose), and they are better in every way. the bass you can hear goes very low, but its not loud and boomy, just good response, kick drums for example sound accurate but not over exaggerated.

but I would say i like them, you should visit a few shops and have a listen to some

I thought there was a typo in your post kilohawk when you referred to the AH D1100, but I see they replace the AH D1001s. They did have too much bass for me and leaked a surprising amount of sound. John Lewis stocked the AH D1001 at their listening posts, hopefully they will do the same with the new ones.
