Where TV is the source, what connection are you using?

With smart TVs being so common now, the TV itself is often the source rather than a blu-ray player or set top box.

With the external source, an HDMI cable into the receiver was the common way to connect.

What does everyone use when the TV is the source? Optical? Am I right in thinking RCA-out is uncommon now?

HDMI from the peripherals to the television (PVR, BD player and ATV3) then optical from the television to the DAC in my Quad Vena amp. (Stereo.)

Coaxial from the old fashioned aeriel / antenna in the attic, HDMI for everything else except things that haven't got HDMI connections, then RCA. SCART never caught on in the USA, and S-Video is history.

Use the HDMI channel in your TV and receiver for best results. Failinhg that fibre optic or electric digital coaxial, depending on what your TV and receiver can handle.

Hi...I have a hdmi cable between TV arc channel and av receiver, but no sound through speakers when using smart TV.

Does this mean I have to use an optical cable for sound?

Any help appreciated...
