If any is their any difference between sony KDL40W4000 & sony KDL40W4000U or is it just shops adding on extra letters so they dont have to price match. Ive got the sony tv and its superb.

No, there are various versions of most TVs for different markets, to the extent that the downloadable manual for the KDL40W4000 lists the model number on the cover as KDL40W4000xx.

Different versions will have different mains cables, tuners and so on to suit different territories.

The U version AFAIK, is quite logically the UK one.
