Whats the difference between 37PX8B and 37PX80

Hello comrade! It seems that the only difference between the two tellies it that the PX80 has three hdmi ports while the PX8B has only two. Otherwise the two models are identical; same panel; same features (apart from the extra hdmi). Despite this small difference in spec. one reputable internet shopping site with otherwise (very) reasonable prices is selling both these tellies with a difference in price of £150! So that is £150 just for one extra hdmi! Insane!

Also, does anyone else think that Panny give their tellies' model numbers with 8s and Bs in the same model just to confuse people (and basically take the piss), or am I being cynical and they are just stupid? Or am I still being cynical?

Yep, the '8' is the entry-level series in the range - the 80 is the next step up. And the 'B' etc codes at the end of Panasonic product numbers are country/colour/stand denominations.

Thanks for the help. From what I can see the main difference is the PX8 has a contrast ratio of 10,000 and the 80 has 15,000. I have no idea how much of a difference this makes in real terms. Would this extra 5,000 (and the 3rd HDMI which isnt that important to me) be considered worth the extra £150

Thanks again

To be honest, only you can answer that by looking at the picture generated by the 2 sets side by side - if you're happy with the lower contrast of the 8 when you see it in the flesh, as it were, then go for it...

The 8s also use a less sophisticated colour-handling system than the 80s - which suggests their colour-handling may not be as impressive - and they don't offer the 'Eco' mode of the 80 upwards, which could make them pricier to run.

As I have already posted on another thread ,I think the 80's are getting in shorter supply as Sound and Vision have taken it off their website so the best price match for JL has already gone (temporarily anyway).I suspect the price of the 80 is going to harden rather than fall.

Do not delay to long.

That's interesting. Here in Ireland, the 80's recently dropped in price by ?200 in our Panny shop.
