Was back at a dealer to listen to some headphones. On a whim, decided to listen to the Monitor Audio Rx6s I had bought a few months ago but then returned.
This time, even in the dealer's store, they sounded horrible. I heard them through a Marantz amp, but also through Arcam. Sounded better through the arcam, but not by much.
I guess I've gotten used to the lean Rega sound. Most everything in that price range I listen to sounds like a bloated mess, compared to the system I have.
Not saying I've got a great system. Only that once you get used to a certain sonic signature, everything else sounds bad. 🙂
